Another bizarre/whimsical challenge might be a re-run of the long ago Tacky Holiday Decorations Challenge.
I remember that my entry in that one, where someone had recycled the Halloween pumpkins with spray paint, didn't even come close to stacking up against some of the other entries!

| A shoehorn challenge. You shoot for it during a one-week window and then find out what the challenge actually is at rollover. You've then got another week to edit and submit something shot the previous week that would fit that challenge description (or at least appear to try to). |

I proposed an even more wicked version of this a couple years ago, I think I called it "Roulette" but I can't find it. My idea was that the challenge title and description would only be posted when voting started, after all the entries were in, so it would be a complete crapshoot whether you met the challenge or not. In theory, the most generic "good" image ought to have the best chance, but would always get beaten by a luck-of-the-draw "good" image that happened to nail the unknown topic...

Ooh, nice! And I was just thinking of a similar topic - wonder if they could be merged:
Galactic landscapes/Alien life
(expert editing would be lovely)
Capture/create an image that invokes a landscape and/or a lifeform from another planet. |

Regarding galactic landscape, I had a similar idea for the Negative Image challenge few weeks ago. And I'm quite proud of the result!! Even with basic editing rules!!! = )

My father-in-law had a friend in College who would get up at all hours of the night and photograph Fire Hydrants... So in honor of that, I'd say
Fire Hydrants: Creatively photograph a Fire Hydrant |
