Here is a shot I took last night
all I did was resize and used the Sharpen - emphsize edges tool.
How does it look to you???

i love it, if you flipped it upside down, and cropped out the trees, i think it would almost look like the surface of mars |

a little over-sharpened in my humble opinion. |

Love the colors, but definitely over-sharpened. Hurts my eye, and it's only a thumbnail, can't imagine what the full image would do to my poor eyes.

I rather like it...of course I'm not an expert, but I like the detail in the clouds. Beautiful colors. :o)

I don't normally shoot sunrise/sunset photos but I did some a couple days ago. Mr. Crabappl3 came to town and we went shooting together for a few hours....

the sharpening I did is a lot different than my normal method. It looks like some dont like it as it appears to be over shaprened.
I have used this on a few images and Im still getting used to it and it is the lowest level of strength. I may just stick with the regular sharpening.
Thanks for the input
this is my normal sharpening
this is the emphsize edge sharpening

Definitely like the "unsharpened" picture a lot better. Very cool colors in the sky! Nice catch

Wow, great job with the highlights and shadows. WOrks much better than the sharpening.

Also, if you do like the edge-enhancing sharpening, I would recommend sharpening the clouds, but not the trees. The edge-detection on the trees really makes it look over-processed. The effect on the clouds makes it look unnatural, but not necessarily unappealing.

Glad I could help :D (although that tip will probably cost me in the long run with tougher competition in challenges! lol)
Sorry, can't help you with the Photo impact equivelent, maybe some one else can. I only discoverd dodge & burn a couple of months ago myself & it takes some getting used to. As I stated in another thread last night, it's become my new best friend ;)
It can really help the impact of a photo as long as you use it wisely & in moderation. Just like any other tool, over doing can spoil a good thing.
