I noticed that I've been voting VERY high on most of the entries. For example, I've aready given out ten 9's and a bunch more 8's and 7's. I know from my average vote cast of 5.1xxx that this is unusually high. Anyone else find themselves voting higher than normal for this challenge? Is the caliber of entries better than normal or is it just me?

... Or maybe I'm just so grateful to not have to look at flowers for once, that Im being generous

Yep - me too. My average vote is 5.9450 which is over a full point higher than usual. (I tend to be 4.8 - I always vote for all pictures.)

I will still be tweaking the scores - but it won't change much.

Portrait challenges are a bit more demanding. They require a willing model, and you can't get away with a flower or sunset photo, so the casual photographers are less inclined to enter. You pretty much have to put in more effort on this type of challenge- and it shows.

I've given out eighteen eights or higher, which equates to a fifth of entries. the quality overall is really top-notch. i was acutally pleased with what i entered, but it's averaging only a 6.01. normally i'd be thrilled, but i honestly think i'd be lucky to get into the top 50 percentile the competition is so fantastic. on the up side, voting this week has been a total joy, with only 12 pictures (in my mind) not quite passing muster and getting less than a 4. a very high standard...

I don't mean to be the class jerk, but I thought the quality of submissions on the last "portrait" challenge were noticeably higher. These were good overall, but I remember being wow'd before.

I found that with this challenge, I was either very impressed or very underwhelmed, with few middle of the road scores.

How do you know your average vote on a particular challenge? Is it listed somewhere in your statistics? Ann

Ann: No - I just pop the numebers into an Excel worksheet to get the averages. It would be nice to have that feature on site --- see this thread: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=98410

there are a lot of good shots, but I think this challange is really a weakness for digital. The deep DOF does not make for good portraits, nor does the great sharpness.

I think this was an exceptionally well-executed challenge. I'm usually a very middle-of-the-road voter and I gave 12 10's in this challenge.

You've made your point quite clearly in the other thread.
