Already on the way down. I was hoping for a top-20, not-to-be I guess. Atleast it's pulling up my average :)

I hate when people vote for images "for a Free Study" rather than just voting on the images themselves.

I don't quite understand. Since it's a freestudy, anything goes. Almost sounds like you think people are calling your FS entry DNMC?

No, some people state that they assess free studies more harshly... it's the same judging the images against the other images in the challenge problem this site has, instead of voting for the image itself. :)

I woke up this morning, went to work. It was raining hard, so we got sent home at lunch time. Great, computer and DPC time in the afternoon. I spotted this thread and eagerly looked, then a feeling of dread descended over me. It is 1st October, September Free Study finished last night...

No entry, not even a duff one. I have missed a Free Study!!

I don't miss Free Studies, my rating will plummet and I am doomed to despair and excessive beer drinking as a consolation.

Damn, I know I was loading a new OS and juggling software, but it just passed me by in a flash.

I guess the question is how you set your scale. I'm sure a lot of people will look through the images & pick the middle of the pack & call it a 5 and then vote for the rest accordingly (I think many do this without realizing it).

So, if you're voting on a FS and you do the same thing, the middle of the pack (the 5 votes) might be really great photos in another challenge but just average in this one.

I don't think either way is right or wrong. I consider 5 average... is it average in general or average in this challenge?

OIC. I was missing your point. I agree with how you look at it. I vote each picture on it's own merits. You will not convince the rankers to vote differently and they will not convince you. As Tammy suggested, some of it may be subconscious.

I'm not sure I understand your statement. I judge Free Studies more harshly than a weekly challenge......to me that's an obvious choice.....you have all month to submit the best image possible without the constriction of a theme.

I don't vote any image against another in any challenge for any reason. There's no correlation between the two, IMNSHO.

Wild swings. It was as low as 5.44 earlier today, then back up to 5.74, now on the way down again. Love it or hate it.

Don't you know it's against the law to make even remotely negative comments towards a 6+ score when there are starving photographers around the world with much lower scores in the 5 and sub 5 range? :P
