After Google, dpchallenge, and the local phone book, where are the best lists (if any) for finding photographers?

Let me take a step back, first: My interest is actually where should *I* be looking to find a decent wedding photographer.
I've got the reception hall's advice, I've got many hits from search engines. I've got lists of people giving advice on the business end, preparations etc.--but the one thing I don't see from those is "make sure above all else, if you're a wedding photographer, get listed on X!"

If you shoot stock photography, or news-worthy shots, it's a big deal to get your stuff picked-up by e.g. Getty. Is there any analog to wedding photography, other than an exclusive client list?

While I'm mostly interested in answers to my own search, feel free to digress into other areas of photography if you happen to know those better.

Word of mouth is as important (probably more) as any listing could be. When you get past the websites, listing services, phone directories, etc, all you really have to go on is what the photographer tells you, and what other people who have used them have to say.

A cousin of my wife had her wedding shot 3 years ago, and never got anything except a disc of pictures. She said that he was acting really creepy during the wedding too. By a weird coincidence, I attended a wedding seminar he held earlier this year, and he presented himself very well.

In general though, lots of brides swear by theknot.com.

You really wanna know the answer to: "make sure above all else, if you're a wedding photographer, get listed on X!". This is pictage (www.pictage.com).... Yes it costs money monthly. And yes it costs more money to get the advertisement on there as a photographer. But if you are a professional wedding photographer you want to get account with them. You upload your wedding photos to them, they take care of all the printing (you set the price of each individual print) and get money from them while they deal with hassle. My old boss (Professional Savannah wedding photographer/ photographer for Paula Deen) had an account with them and got a ton of business through them. Hope this helps! Good luck!
