Wouldn't it be nice if you could elect to not show your 'Highest Rated Photographs' on your DPC profile page?

Mine are a source of embarrassment to me, and I know that I'm not alone. It's part of the reason I am an intermittent participant here: I cringe at the sight of my own profile page. And I know as well that I have no chance now of ever knocking any of my highest rated photographs off their perch, so alas I am destined as a photographer to be forever defined here by some images that I detest. It's like being defined as a writer by a 'What I Did On My Holidays' composition written in the tenth grade.

It's a serious suggestion and not, of course, intended to be compulsory: just a personal choice. Suits some, not others.

I think that it's important to leave them up for awhile.

HOWEVER, I do think, since votes/photos have changed over the years, I think after a couple of years you should be able to have them drop off your profile page, if so desired.

I like this idea a lot. I'd much rather have my personal favs and my recent uploads. MUCH rather.

I agree - make it an option to show highest rated or our personal favorites. I'd probably end up posting some of my lowest rated images. :-D

another thought..... if we could have our favorites they could change!!
I'm finding it harder and harder to replace my highest rated pictures (and as I get older and older it's probably not going to get any easier).

Excellent idea. I can't think of any reason other than inertia why it has to stay the way it is. I'm completely in sympathy with Ubique's desire to not be represented any longer by those images, because they portray a person who no longer exists, quite literally.

I like the idea. I have many that I personally prefer to what is shown there. Just as with voting, the top rated entries is a reflection of what achieved mass appeal. It has it's place, but I can certainly understand why some don't care for what it displays.

You can always use your "selected pictures from portfolio" or the bio area to show off your own favorites, though that does not do anything about the highest rated section.

Two thumbs up.

totally agree... I despise my highest-rated photos, and would love to see them off my profile page. Members should have the option to select which photos represent their profile, and not be eternally punished for their past transgressions.

I agree with this. When I started here, I was all about score. I took pictures in the DPC derivative eye-candy style. I modeled my pictures after the types of things I was seeing on the front page. I achieved some high scores, and by some anomaly once took home a blue ribbon. I had fun and I learned a lot. But those days are gone.

Today I shoot what I like. I still have fun and I'm still learning (always learning) but I take my inspiration from more subtle/less popular things. I care nothing about score, but enter challenges now for fun more than anything else. As such, my front page may never change.

The answer: Show the top five images from the user's past twenty-five or fifty challenge entries.

Disagree... If you think you're embarrassed, you should start doing better soon, and that's the goal here I think. Mine started from 4's and low 5's, and I never thought about embarrassment!

I think you're missing the entire point. (I love the irony with your username too).

Well, let me help you. lol.

The point is, Ubique has developed a style that he knows is not DPC ribbon winning/score getting material. He doesn't like the fact that the stuff that is high scoring, and out there constantly for everyone to see, is stuff that no longer defines him, or his style. He'd like the OPTION to be able to switch that out with something of his own choosing, in order for profile clickers to get a taste of what and who he is, photographically.

It's not about DOING BETTER. He could "do better" all he wants, in a DPC sense, and the stuff that would replace what's there score wise would be the absolute OPPOSITE of what he wants people to see and know of him as a photographer.

See?

Great idea. Perhaps have the option for the user to pick the 5 challenges he/she wants to show on their profile page...

Yes, that would be nice indeed. I've been embarrassed so long, I no longer blush or complain.

hmmm ubique got his wish. You go to his profile and all his top photos are hidden.

Not really Wendy. He tagged them as Nude, so they don't show up if you're not logged in but otherwise they do. That's one way of doing it! :-D

He seems like an extremly creative photographer... Probably it's the "standard" issue for DPC. I checked his work again, and he is much better than I am.

When I go to your profile, Paul, I only see the last four of your top ten anyway... :)

And of course everyone who reads this thread steps over to your page to view your highest rated! Not a bad idea though.

Two thumbs up.

Two more thumbs up, and a +1 or +2.
