I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem I have. I was browsing some photos using a card reader, used the removed hardware icon, put the card back in my camera and it now says there are no photos.

When I browse the card again it shows one 2GB file which I assume contains all my photos. Has anyone come across this before or have any ideas how to recover the pictures. It has all my holiday photos on and I'd really really appreciate any help.

Thank you!!

I forgot to say, the 2GB file doesn't have a file extension.

What kind of a card do you have? Rescue Pro is a good software to try. Often you can get the software free from Sandisk if you've purchased some of their bigger cards. Might investigate that.

Usually when removing a card you eject the card -- for Windows, select the drive from MyComputer, and right-click or use the File Menu to find EJECT. If you use the Remove Hardware tool you are completely disconnecting the card reader, not just unmounting the card you are reading at the time.

If you use a POSIX compatible computer (UNIX/Linux/Mac OSX) I've had luck with foremost (apparently based on the older DOS program CarvThis). Both are owned by the US government, but are free software. foremost is available in Mac Ports if you run OSX.

Sandisk RescuePro Recovery Software, V3.3 will definitely do the job for you. Before that, you can also try out another card reader from a friend of whoever. suspect could be card reader failure too.
