Now, it would just so happen that this challenge would come up while I am out of the country. I'm sure I could have gotten some interesting airport shots or something, but it certainly does me no good since I won't be returning home until after the challenge is over and I currently have no way to get my photos off my camera onto a computer.

Just my luck.

I'm in exactly the same situation as you - travelling this week, but not getting near a computer until after the deadline :o/ Ah well...

Most public libraries in the US have internet access now. If you have a cable or card reader with you, you might be able to convince a librarian of the nobility of your pursuit and let you connect from there...

And look for those internet cafes which I have seen while traveling away from the U.S. and in some remote but touristy areas in the US.

Yeah, but that doesn't solve the software issue.

BUT!

Daddies are wonderful things and are willing to loan their wonderful daughters the digital camera. :) You know you're addicted when...

It's funny because I live in Italy. But I am back in Virginia visiting my family this week. I would have prefered to take a picture for the travel challenge there instead of here. Oh well. I carry my laptop with me everywhere and I always find a way to connect to the web. So submitting this week won't be a problem.

I was lucky enough in BZ to have the internet cafe, one of my bird "guides" and my hotel let me use their computers and my own software. Now when I travel in AR, I'm not so fortunate, unless I have photos that they want.

It doesn´t have to be by train, plane, car or boat. It can be by sledge, skates, skies or someone else´s back or something.

It just has to "represent" travel, and so your subject could be a pile of suitcases, for instance, or tickets, or piles of brochures.

Hmm, I was thinking about where and what I am sightseeing while I was traveling..

or maybe of something non-human traveling...I guess my head is way outside the box..

I was thinking of doing origami geese made folded from maps against blue sky. Or something alien. Or something with a passport and very old family fotos. Or something with snow animal tracks. Or some hokey made up machine against clock hand transparency representing time travel. Or something fake to look like a fibre optic fuzzy pic inside the human body ( like the old flick the "amazing journey" idea). Or something simple like Einstein's theory of general relativity and E=Mc2 with mock wig, blackboard or other superimposed formulae and space stuff. Dig out the old Star Trek model and fake warp speed or a black hole. Maybe just the black hole with the image title. Life outside the box is lonely somebody turn on the lights (ha ha).

I am doing the same kind of shot - more about something seen on travels. Hopefully it won't get crushed by the voters!

OK.. I just voted on the photos and was quite suprised to see many photos that were a stretch on the theme. I didn't knock them down but it kind of takes the fun out of a challenge when folks differ too far. I didn't enter this time because I didn't have the time to dedicate.

Does anyone else think there were a lot of strays this time? It could be just me :-(

That has been my comment on the last several "Don't know what this has to go with "travel" as the challenge meant it. Some, I felt that what they took the photo of did the traveling rather than them taking it in their travels. I was a bit disappointed in the photos - the subject of them is what I mean. A couple I had taken and was going to submit but said would get slammed, where submitted by others. Guess I should have gone ahead. So I couldn't come up with anything because I really didn't travel.

"Take your best shot to represent 'travel'."

Doesn't say anything about having to do any travelling there, just to represent it.

I was able to easily come up with a picture that was within the theme, but technically it has a serious problem. Every single comment mentioned that it is over-exposed. It doesn't look that way on my monitor at all, but they can't all be wrong. My monitor is turned up as bright as it can get (100%) and it still doesn't look blown out. Maybe I need a new monitor, or I'll have to trust PS autolevel for now. I am glad, though, that people are being honest and letting me know what the problem is. Thanks everyone!

Actually, I find PS Auto-levels fails me quite a bit, especially when the histogram is very stretched out on the white end. Then I seem to get a lot of blown out areas. I'll use it first, but often cancel it and do it manually.
