| Please help: I am looking to give a gift of a book with collection of BLACK & WHITE photographs. Something that is unique and would be appreciated by a person who loves B&W photography. Not a tutorial or instructional book but rather a catalogue? Maybe even a collectible edition? Thank you! |

I have Africa by Herb Ritts - it's BEAUTIFUL!
It was a gift from a very special friend and absolutely appreciated.

I know it's trite, but I still think Ansel Adams is the best black & white.
I looked through amazon, and I hadn't seen this one before -- it looks interesting:

Clyde Butcher is a great B/W Photography who has a number of books
Books by Clyde Butcher
Larry Towell is another one who does a lot of B/W photography that some one just showd me recently.

Yousuf Karsh, "Regarding Heroes", is great. But it is pricey... The pinnacle of traditional portraiture. Avedon's "In the American West", mentioned by Spork a few posts ago, as all portraits also, but much less stylized. It, too, is a wonderful book.

| I would suggest Personal Ads Portraits (a book I worked on) but I don't think it's in print ... :-( |
