Hello DPC'ers I been away for a longtime.....but I got a question. Someone asked me to use my photo on a cover of a magazine.
so my question is......How much should I charge them?

I had a similar opportunity a few years back. Alan Freed provided a link to a site for calculating fair value. It was spot-on for me. I don't have the link anymore, but he probably can provide it if you PM him. |

this rate calculator will give you a starting point. once you have that, ask them what they normally pay. if it's reasonable, take it. if they don't want to pay, then it's up to you.
i managed to give away a couple images before i started asking the person who was asking me to give my work for free if they were working for free. of course they weren't. so i asked them why should i work for free. when they told me exposure, i asked what good does it do for me to show everyone that i'm willing to work for free...
by and large, though, $500 would be a minimum for a full-cover photo. depending on circulation, visibility, and the uniqueness of your image, you could ask for double or triple that.
