So far, it's my best worst score since June 2005! At this point, all I can do is silently LOL.

Once again as with all my entries lately the results are extremely dissapointing. I always seem to start off with a respectable score of around 6.0000 to 6.2000 after the first 6 to 7 votes and then it just starts dropping constantly. I am now at 5.5 and dropping after starting off at 6.ooo
Problem is nobody gives any feedback at all as to why they vote me so low. Personally I feel I have a nice strong entry with nice visual impact and processing. So what's wrong?

When you hardly ever get any advice or constructive critisism then this site is not very useful for a photographer trying to improve his/her skills.

I was already getting demotivated because of yet again a rapidly decreasing scoreline but right now I am feeling like I might as well stop entering any more images from now on. And I really like my entry and just cannot by the love of Jove understand how and why it is doing so badly. I mean some people must also have liked it to have voted 6 right the start as after 3 votes I was on 6.0000 but since then it has been downhill and it just keeps on going down. I really feel this image is worth a good 6 but looks like people here are giving me 3's 4's and 5's with more 3's and 4's then 5's.

Yep 3.8, but IMHO the photo is not worth more than a 4.x anyway because of the focus issues

For what i thought was a good photo...
This really de-motivates me....

Me too.
I also thought mine was also creative (not a flower challenge but a yellow challenge...) and a 2 vote just hammered my score! Come get me trolls!!

I agree. I just came off of a challenge entry that ended up being my personal worst (and I admit that the score was justified), to starting this one off in the 4.x range, which is definitely lower than expected. :( I realized that I didn't photograph any of the past winning subjects in the Yellow catagory (flowers, bugs, eggs, etc.) but I certainly met challenge (no question) and I don't see any glaring mistakes in my technique. Very disappointing and no comments or critiques. Hopefully the cranky people are getting their scores out of the way so the happy folks can drop "10's" all over the place. :)

Gee, sorry to hear that, unless you wind up with the brown, which is its own consolation... at this point I can only hope for a sepia-toned ribbon, or maybe an HM for the same.

The funny thing is, although I didn't think my entry was front-page material, I at least thought it was decent--and all I wanted to do was beat my 4.9x score from my first-ever challenge entry, and it's looking now like I won't even manage that!

If it stays here it will be my all-time low. And funny thing, IMO, it's not near as bad as my current all-time low, in fact I still think it's interesting...just not enough pop to compete, I suppose.

Hope to not compete with that 3.8!

From what everyone's posting this looks like it's going to be a low scoring challenge. I woke up to a 4.96 and thought, hmmm, not to bad, I'm sure it will at least go over 5. Instead with each vote it's going down. My one comment says they love it.

I just got another 2... come on people!!

Maybe I will get Blue with a 5.2 haha

And lower and lower still. But at least 1 comment although the person used the "hide identity' option. That single comment says "OVER PROCESSED" and shows me at least that the reason for the low score is that some people don't understand my style of processing. Over processed according to what or compared to what? What are the rules that make an image over processed or not? And is over processed always bad because because it does not fit into your particular taste? It is not over processed at all to me but rather a graphic kind of style that I go for on purpose and that I like for this particular image. To just dismiss it with one word "OVER PROCESSED" does not do my image any justice at all I feel.

Just finished voting... must say I appreciated those who thought outside of the box.... I promise to comment on all my high scoring and low scoring images... and if time permits ill comment on them all since this is such a low scoring challenge.

Cranky people indeed. Thanks, Carrie, mine was indeed well outside of the box. I think I shall not look at scores again until there's at least 50 votes, y'all have a good week.

Its some consolation knowing that really good photographers are getting the same sort of scores as this, It will be my lowest scoring photo here at DP which I suppose is pretty cool, after looking through all the photos I didn't see many IMO that deserved a four or less. Luckily i won't have to drowned my sorrows tonight as i'm doing much better in the rust challenge.

Wow. Used to be something this low REALLY sucked. If it keeps up I'll be competing with that 3.8.

I feel like Lurch..."uuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

Was a little disappointed this morning until I read the following posts! Though mine isn't a complete "yellow" I didn't think it would be at a 3.7 "ouch"

5 votes = 5.2, and I thought, the scores always go up! :)

40 votes = 4.4, and I really wonder where they have seen my subject matter before!

Forgot to add... Of course no comments!

Yeah...

I think my photo is at least okay in terms of lighting, sharpness, noise, composition, and technicals generally--but it's not monochrome yellow, so I can only guess that I'm getting a lot of DNMC votes. I can't even vote in this challenge until I stop feeling like this: >_<

4.3 here. And no comments. Great.
08/25/2010 11:59:18 AM · #50
I agree, I tend to go for clarity and detail, but my comments disparage Grainy and Noisy. My preference over theirs, but they score me a 3 for me providing hairs on a dragonfly at the expense of a "Grainy" sky.

And lower and lower still. But at least 1 comment although the person used the "hide identity' option.
