the challenge? This must sound like a really dumb question. I saw the "yellow' challenge posted and I took a photo
that I like but it is very straightforward and does not need anything other than a crop and a bit of S&H. Is it a waste of time and
an automatic low score to enter something basic in "advanced editing"?

Keep in mind that any post-processing should improve the image... anything more and you have negative returns.

If the image doesn't need any special treatment, then submit it as is. Don't do things to it that it doesn't need, just because you can.

Most of my entries to advanced editing challenges could be entered equally into Basic rules challenges.

If its good enough it wont need editing, the point of advanced is to give us a larger boundries when editing IF we need it.

I've only entered one challenge where I used advanced processing techniques. I don't think it matters what you use as long as your image improves with editing. If it's perfect from the camera, submit that.
Although someone has theories about some editing that's allowed in basic that isn't in advanced that I don't quite understand.

Likewise. I just decided not to worry about it much. Probably I would never actually wander into that zone while editing!

Similar. A photo is more than the sum of its editing.

With the exception of the occasional vignette, most of my entries would fall within Basic rulesets. I don't understand half of what's allowed in Advanced, and when I see these threads where people tread the hairy edge and get all worked up about it, I'm about half glad I'm no better at editing than I am. Really, this site has taught me more about how to get a better shot in the first place than how to edit.....(With apologies to Bear who tried to teach me more, only to have me get frustrated and revert to my original bad habits.)
