Couldn't agree more with the title of this thread. Morons, indeed.

I'm hoping for 5.5+ with this. It was a last second thing, but it's not awful.

I'm done.

Was hoping mid 5s at least. Cannot even get mid 4s.

Subscription is up in 6 days. I wasn't going to enter anymore and figured I'd try one more. Mistake.

[Prepare for a rant...]

Then go.

It amazes me that people only accept the good that people see in their shots. Nobody ever complains about getting votes of 9 or 10. People rarely complain about getting a result 6+. Anything else is seen as a personal attack on them, their photography skills and their trigger finger.

If I score badly I assume there's a reason for it, and the reason is not an inter-site conspiracy -- it's cause my shot sucks, even if I don't think it does (for the more artistic among us the reason might be different). This incessant whining (which is different than complaining about votes that're far removed from your expected vote) makes this place miserable.
Y'all wonder why "DPC is slowly dying." It's because of that. "Back in the day" it was easier to score better. People complained less. And the atmosphere was probably happier here. Forums were probably merrier, and more fun to be around.
It's frustrating as hell to read the same thing day in and day out.

kltkitchens, you have some magnificent shots. It would be a shame to see you go. I admire your skills and respect your voting style. If you leave then we've lost a great contributor.
Leaving because some of your recent shots don't tickle broad appeal's sweet spot is a stupid reason to stop. Leveraging this result as having broken the camel's back is also stupid.
We are... 8 hours into the competition. ANY vote that's out of the range will change your far more than it would mid week. It'll ALWAYS be more turbulent now than next Sunday.

Edit: I get the irony of my complaining here! :)

Minor setback -- still a great score! Things fluctuate wildly at this point. Never trust the numbers until you hit 100 votes, and then it can still change. But have fun with the ride :)

Just finished voting..

You have rated 83 of 87 images (95%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 13 images (15%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.8916.

I think a LOT of people just don't get what an oxymoron is! I did give out 6 - 10's and 7 - 9's.

Having trouble voting because I may love the photo but the title is no where near an oxymoron, by any stretch of the imagination. What's a girl to do?

It's been rough, recently. I think the people who have been here longer are getting confused when they can no longer guess what they're going to receive on a photo. And I think the mid-range photo averages have gone down, as well. I used to be able to guess pretty closely as to what I'd receive on my entries. Sure, there'd be some surprises, but it was rare. Now everything seems to follow no pattern.

It just takes awhile for people to adjust to that. Times change, people change, votes change. DPC may have been a happier place a couple of years ago, because photos like this

received over 8+

It's a wonderful photo, and I truly love it, but the bar has been raised so much, that it wouldn't get anywhere near an 8 today. Even though the photos have gotten better, the scoring has gotten more harsh. Sometimes it just gets to you.

I'd cut him a break.

And I have seen people say that they're surprised that their photo is scoring as well as it has. Of course they won't complain about it, but they acknowledge that the photo is being overrated.

This isn't a rant -- it's just a musing.

I got over that problem because when I looked at the posted lists of oxymorons, 85% of them didn't seem to be an oxymoron. The more I looked at them, I started to see... "oh yeah, I guess that is one..."

As long as there are two words in the title that seem to oppose each other, that's good enough for me.

They need to be the opposite to be an oxymoron (at least in my book). And I voted down if the title didn't convey that.

Yeah, me too, but then I did a search for one in particular on oxymoron lists on the internet and on 5 of them, there it was, so I raised the score. I guess I'm just dumb. LOL

Oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines normally-contradictory terms (wikipedia).
So it's not at all opposite terms. "Dry water" is an oxymoron by opposition and "hard water" by contradiction.

Thanks for the rant (and the levity at the end)....

However, you're made a connection between my scoring and my leaving, which I can see why you made that mistake, but I never said that.

You looked at my stuff... I've had stuff far more dreadful than the current entry. I've entered stuff I KNEW was bad, but entered it anyway, just because I wanted to enter. I've had some good stuff too. I've also had some REALLY good stuff that scored lower than it should. No biggie. One entry would never break me.

No, I'm not renewing because of the distraction this site brings... that and it's not fun anymore. Not necessarily leaving altogether. I did clear out my portfolio because I get less space as a user vs. a member... This has been planned for about a month now, but I didn't want to make any major declarations. I just let slip here in my frustration. :)

Oh well.
