no flash

Direct flash

bounce flash

If you want to shoot with 300mm zoom, you should get at least this kind of sharpness from a lens. This is Tamron lens and i did NOT get this clarity the other day at the zoo (unfortunately). Next time hopefully I will kick some butt :)

I left you some comments. I tried to comment about what I see. Some of the photos are soft, out of focus kind, and some of them very sharp. Cropping on all photos are very good, I like them all. I just thought I would see much clearer and sharper images from your lens (better than how they are now), but I might be expecting too much also... just like I did from my other Canon lens :(

You can start a thread for this idea, I am sure there will be some of us interested in. fyi, Sundays are the best days for me, Saturdays second best.

I too also want to take some floral photos and maybe start selling here and there if I can. Thinking more of something like this.

Sounds like you had a good time.

I'm remembering way, WAY back in January, 2004 going to my first DPC GTG at Phoenix Zoo with Tina Faust( tfaust), Daryl Faust( Louddog), Roger Crawford( rcrawford) and Brenda( BNC). It was nice and we got pictures similar to what you folks took. The zoo never changes. :)

In the realm of Canon telephoto lenses I picked up a Canon EF 300mm f/4.0L IS USM and Canon Extender EF 2x to go along with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L IS USM I already had.

The 2X Extender is highly recommended, despite that my two lenses are only f/4 and you have to hand focus when using it. But the quality of the images is far better than I would ever have imagined... My test results with and without the extender are found here:
//www.pbase.com/azleader/teletest

I will be breezing through Phx in October sometime and it would be fun to meet up to take pictures. I sold 4 floral images so far to Phoenix Children's Hospital for their remodel. The pictures themselves aren't all that special but those babies are printed HUGE! The smallest is 10 feet by 6 feet and the largest 10 feet by 28 feet! The irony of it is none of the images they have picked so far are native to Arizona. lol!!!

The shoot-out lens no longer with me. I returned it as fast as I could and got myself a Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2 for Canon. Now, why did I sell my previous Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro for Canon? I don't know, but this one is close to it. Sharper images and no double-colorful edges... Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III was the worst lens I owned, even for a day.

The zoo trip was good, even under pretty much "oven heat" temperatures.

Here is one more DPC member that I have met today, pickster. He now also owns a DPC hat :)

And here when he is hunting (shooting) animals

Actually today I dedicated the whole shooting for my new zoom lens Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III. It is the worst lens I ever own, bar-none. I am pretty good to make things better but this lens is hopeless. I probably will return it tomorrow and get something "sharper". However, it would be nice to get your feedback on some of the photos I took here.

I uploaded an original of one of the photos,

That's with about 290mm zoom. I can't get sharper image than this, even with high speeds!

I am waiting pickster's results with his Canon EF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM. He most likely smoked me with no mercy :-\

I just got myself another lens (used) for $130 (Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III), first time all my lenses are Canon (whoohoo). Nice little thing, works fine. I am going to shoot some African animals tomorrow (shutter=bullet). There will be one person at the zoo from DPC, which will get the DPC hat as well. Wildlife zoo on Northern, tomorrow at 9am. I am thinking to shoot at aquarium as well, many colorful ocean creatures there. Stand by for the results.

No worries, I will post the photos here in any case... with a message "I wish you were there"

Since I came to Arizona, I saw one person from Tuscan JulietNN, because I rode to her place with my friends, and a friend from Washington DC levyj413 which came here for a business. All others live in AZ couldn't make it to any other meetings that I asked way back. I don't complain about these things, people have their own wishes and daily life, not easy to get together, also it's hot. However I love photography a lot, group or not group taking photos and posting them here is fun. Plus, I will have more hats to giveaway for the challenges.

What I'm saying here is you really didn't give her an option to come because it wouldn't be "fun" if you couldn't all ride together. I think you might have more people if you were a bit more flexible. We had a Ft. Worth/Dallas GTG a few weeks ago and I didn't want to share a ride because I smoke. I like the freedom of being able to smoke, listen to my own tunes, and stop wherever I want along the way. We had plenty of time to chat during our shoots and eating together.

I would come but I live a few states away. : )

Sorry I can not make it.

I know you said I could bring the kids, but if I can not drive my own car and have to drive with you, it is not possible for me to come. I know you said you wanted everyone to go in your van.

But A. I get car sickness unless I am driving and

B. I have 3 kids

C. We would take up 4 places in your van that other adults could have instead.

D. I live in Tucson and would want to be able to leave when I have to and not on someone else's time schedule.

E. Not sure why we have to all go in one van, what is wrong with someone following or meeting you there

Sounds quite reasonable, especially with three kiddos!! It looks like he might be riding alone. : )

About 3 days left. To those who interested in this shoot-out please send me private messages to schedule exact time and place on Sunday the 19th. There won't be Squaw Peak climb but there could be just little walk from a smaller peak on 59th ave to catch the sunset (optional). Zoo and lunch are the main places we will go (unless if someone else comes up with a better idea)... and remember the free DPC hats

One week call for the zoo and the mountaintop... or some other places, who knows :) but definitely fun (and DPC hats)

10 days left. The bus will leave in any case (but rainy day).

I will be taking tour to the zoo on September 19th (once again), after that I will be heading to Squaw Peak for a sunset shot from the top (1.5 miles climb). I think this will be a challenging shoot-out.

Program,

After morning pickup at 8.30 am, Wildlife zoo until noon (That's 3 hours, entry cost $27 per person optional plus sky-ride and other stuff starting from 2 bucks to 8 dollars per person). Lunch somewhere nice, probably TGI Friday's or even Denny's (around 2 hours, probably $15 meal per person). Start climbing the mountain around 4pm. I regularly take hour and a half to climb (I am a slow climber) that day I am planning to take around 2 or more to take photos on my way and catch the sunset on top. Times could be little different depending on the sunset hour.

Some photos from last week's zoo trip.

... some more here

I took my family to the same zoo today... We stayed around 4 hours, and these are some of the images from there. Those who will show up for the one-day shoot-out will probably get better ones.

Zoo Images

Remember, DPC members will get a DPC Hat that day.
