One of the blogs I read had this link: Captured: America in Color from 1939-1943.

The photographs are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.

These pictures really touch me. I've only seen B&W pictures from this time period, but seeing pictures in color had me relating with them more.

Wow...

Many, many of these photographs (Pie Town, New Mexico) are from very near where I live... I suppose I should go out and try to relocate some of these locations..

my boss sent me that link at lunchtime. They're some really nice stuff there.

Check the links at the end, too. More goodness.

Awesome photos! Thanks for the link.

Grammatical nitpick: Denver Post's use of the phrase "some of the only," which is completely meaningless... I think they mean "some of the few."

I find it amazing that when you see old pictures in color I feel that things have not changed that much.

Absolutely stunning. Industrial America in its growing stage... Now, there are no hard working people like those and hardfaced, hardsouled... It's just too different now.

Even I didn't live those years, I felt like I did.

Good stuff

Flickr's Commons has a huge archive of color photos from this era, including the ones shown on the page.

Warning: The Commons in general, and this set in particular, may be HIGHLY addictive.

Great shots - number 58 is inspiring in more ways than one.

Anyone know if there are any 1930s/1940s London photo collections in colour?

Nice! I grew up near one of the shots in Derby.

Haven't they?

People haven't fundamentally changed in the last 80 years. Hell, they haven't really changed all that much in the last several thousand years.

We have more technology and ready access to tons of information, but it hasn't changed human instincts or personality traits.
