There are times when you can have FOUR at one time :)

Yes, I've had four running before. I don't really like having three in the mix let alone 4, but I'm a glutton for punishment...what can I say. Two is a comfortable number because one never seems to be enough of a "fix". LOL.

some of the shots are nice except for that complicating factor that it would probably not be accepted as stock

p.s. and i hope they got releases from all those models ;-)

Guess what...we're NOT really submitting these photos to stock agencies. We are having fun in a friendly competition. Loosen your collar and relax a little. If people where intending these shots to be submitted I'm sure they would look into the details as you have described, but it's not a factor in this challenge and you shouldn't vote as if it is.

Provided they LOOK like a stock photo, I'm not worried about product logos or model releases.

By "look like a stock photo" do you mean they have to be as sterile as can be and shot against a white backdrop?

Nope. But they look like a company could buy them and use them in ads, billboards, web etc...

Then by that definition, anything can be a "stock" photo... =P

I chose humor over technical and my scores showing it. Oh well. I love my shot.

i don't think it's a matter of loosening a collar, ....i agree with the whole having fun thing, but there rules to lots of fun games, and those that follow, become better competitors for doing their best and still following the rules.... in this challenge i took the time and learned what a stock photo was and it was more of a challenge to take a shot that followed those guidlines that to just take a nice pic of a bottle of tylenol....
i didn't let it affect my voting, but i did feel the need to comment and on what was not a stock photo, not to be a jerk, but just to educate....if we aren't winning any money, i'm assuming we are here to learn....but maybe that's just me...

Can't we all just get along and have fun? Its a dreadfully boring subject do we really need to argue? Smile, vote, move on! Have fun! Be nice!

nicely stated.
having dabbled a little with real stock photography, i can tell you they reject a lot of beautiful photos (ones you would be proud to put on the wall) b/c they are not in line with stcok photography guidelines, which usually look "sterile", "clean", photographically "perfect". it took me a while (an quite a few rejections) to learn what met their criteria.

No, not always sterile:

//www.stockphoto.com/medical_photography/medical_photography.html
//www.bigstockphoto.com/search/medicine

Very far from it.

Common, but not necessary.

I'm kind of surprised that "Stock" isn't a category here on the DPC site when choosing galleries to tag photos. Just an observation.

Another apparently mediocre ho hum photo. Damn I'm good at that! LOL.

I thought my entry met the criteria for a typical stock photo used for medicine and would also appeal to DPC, I was wrong. Sitting on a 5.6 after 18 votes. but its still early

this is extremely frustrating for me becuase I feel I got great shot. I know its not a ribbon winner but I just don't see how anyone could vote less than a 5. There are some seriously harsh people out there. Maybe i should just take pictures of bubbles, even the crappy photo bubble photos get good scores.

Sitting at just under 4.000. Nope not a typo, apparently my shot is that bad!

And fwiw, I am going to send this shot in to Alamy, because it is a good clean stock shot.

You sound very certain by stating a matter of fact. Opinion is one thing. But take care not be wrong.

I know exactly how you feel. My first three votes averaged a 6, and I expected to finish this challenge 5.5+. I'm already down to 4.88, and I cannot figure out why.

I took a quick glance at the thumbnails last night (will likely vote today or tomorrow), and I saw a lot of wonderful shots. It's strange to see so many low scores on what I expect to have a high voting average on. Oh well, it's early. Still plenty of time for things to even out.

I was expecting a low score... funny thing is... it started off great.... then WHAM.... oh well. Thats what I get for choosing humor over "technicality". Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. I crack up every time I see my homepage and thats ALL that matters to me!!
