I like to learn too. But if I have something that I like I'm not going to use expert editing tools on it to change it into something else just because of the particular challenge.
Maybe some would say that I should have started with a different idea so that I could make the most of the opportunity to do special things and maybe I will... next time.
This time I believe I'm getting hammered because I wasn't fancy.
It's not hurting my feelings one bit though.

Edited to add... or maybe I'm getting hammered just because people don't like it as much as I do... that would be okay too - I'm actually sort of glad that I'll never really know which it is.

All I can say is that one out of three comments indicates they they actually looked up the creature and understood the image.

The other two, clearly took the time to comment, but not to attempt to understand.

Not that I really mind, mostly I'm amused, I entered this expecting to get slaughtered..

Well Penny - I am getting lots of 3 & 4 votes and I thought it was fancy (smiles). But I will continue to enter when expert challenges come up as they aren't that often .. for me it's like expanding my reading choices and trying a new author.

Good for you NiallOTuama - I am going to learn layers because I don't know how and have to save every time I make a change or start all over from scratch.

You know, I am beginning to wonder if those 3,4 votes on the ones that went 'fancy' are from voters who 1) not participating in this thread and 2) thought this was Advanced Editing rather than Expert.

The troll voters or whatever are out and I am getting tired of seeing a drop in the score with NO explanation as to why. Feh, turning scores off - had it. I enjoyed putting the piece and making it.

Took a few minutes to vote

Stats: You have rated 39 of 85 images (46%) in this challenge.

Up to you, the voter really. I did a very amateurish job on my entry, so used it more as an excuse to exercise and develop PS skills, which I don't really have. Happy with the result despite the trolls.

I hear ya, Susan! :) I'm trying hard to learn beyond the basics in PS (only have PS 7) and I tried masking in a previous challenge (legally) but, I've been asked for validation on my entry in that challenge now. I'm almost afraid to use any of these tools that I'm not used to using lest I use them in a manner that appears illegal or I do such a crappy job with them that my score suffers. Yet, to not try is not to learn and grow. So, my attempt at this expert editing is suffering greatly! Sitting at a 4.7 right now and kicking myself for even entering but, then again, knowing that I cannot stay at basic/basic advanced levels forever LOL.

How many DNMC'd for ya?

There were about 33 that were either DNMC or just photos of a statue or other artwork -- if they took the statue, toy, art, or whatever and made a scene from it, then that's too too cool and qualifies to me. If they just stood there, took a photo of someone else's work of art, then bzzt... scored low.

Gee....no comment from you and my score has dropped considerably over night....I wonder if you thought I photographed a toy.....hmmmm....! Thanks a lot.

My score dropped a lot overnight too (and I didn't vote for myself!)... so I'm not sure a single vote would have taken you down.

PM me and I'll let you know.

I didn't realise it was Expert editing. I shouldn't have entered, not being an expert in anything.

Judging from the scores I am getting, a lot of people don't realize it's expert editing. Now I have a validation request too. Never got one before when my score was decent.

Same here. So guess that means it's either so good they can't believe I did it, or it's so awful they can't believe I didn't do it! :-)

BTW...they ask for the 'original unedited image'. Which doesn't exist, in this case, as it is a compilation of several different captures. So do I just submit the RAW files that compile the image?

Send as many files as you used. Just follow the directions on the submit validation screen. Use your back button to submit the next image.

May the force be with you. :)

NOT to call you out, Katherine, but I think that if the photog shot a mythical creature... one that doesn't actually exist, then they've done what the challenge description said to do... whether it's a statue of a mythical or whether they created it (even if it's a myth we haven't heard of.. The challenge doesn't say "a famous myth").

Just sayin'...

(And no, I didn't enter a photo of a statue. I just think that this is a much broader topic than some are thinking of.)

You have rated 84 of 84 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 10 images (12%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.0952.

I thought the standard was good enough. Some shots were plain creepy! But a lot of them were good, and the longer you stared at 'em the more you saw that brought out the sense of... the mythological atmosphere.

I think thats whats happening with mine... Im getting 2 different scores... one good one bad LOL I think the good is seeing it for the detail of what it is and the bad is assuming its something its not LOL. Im glad I assumed this was going to get slaughtered and assumed I was going to end up with a sub 5 score... so Im pleasantly surprised.

Hey, Niall & Carrie ...I've had mine be accused of being "creepy" LOL (and it is) ;)...but, weren't mythological creatures "creepy" to begin with? ;O)
