Hi everyone, I'm about to buy my first DSLR camera and I'm choosing between Canon 450D and Nikon d5000 and they are both almost for the same price,(I'm not considering canon 500D because it's out of my budget limit) also I want to consider lenses and accessories prices for each which I'll buy later for the comparison.

I'm also not sure if I should buy it body and get a lens of my choice or buy it with the kit lens. I don't want to buy it with the lens and end up not using it later when I get another, and which lens do you recommend, most of what I'll be shooting will be studio and landscape, keep in mind that here in Egypt where I'm, the prices would be higher then US prices(for example Nikon 5000 d w lens is about 750$) and my budget isn't high.

thanks in advanced.

Buy what feels best in your hand and seems easiest to acclimate yourself to as far as operation.

You'll get more lens advice than you could possibly imagine, but really with your budget, you may have to make do with the kit lens for the time being. They're generally a good deal with the package, and once you're accustomed to the camera, you can make a better choice in lenses for the kind of shooting you like best.

Go with Jebs advice about the body. Much of a muchness really so have a play in the shop with each and go with whichever feels best to you.

As to lenses-whether you get the kit lens or not i'd really recommend getting a very cheap 50mm f1.8 prime as well (or maybe a 35mm). I really do think they are a great way to learn and get to know your camera.

Even though I own a Canon, I'd suggest the Nikon d5000. The Canon 450D is older technology. Now, if you want just a plain solid dslr and are OK with going used, I'd take a look at a Nikon D40 - which you could probably get under your budget, start the savings account for your lens upgrade, and still have a great camera.
As usual, NikonJeb's advice is good. I seriously doubt you could go too far wrong with either the Canon or the Nikon as a first DSLR.

Compatibility is a factor to consider. Is either brand easier to find accessories for where you live, or do you have friends that tend to own one or the other?

about what would be more comfortable in my hand, I have a large hand and I'm a left-handed so I'll adjust to anything so as for the functions since I haven't used a DSLR before, I'm a specs. person more than any thing else.
I won't go for used cameras because it's not safe to buy here in Egypt, not for the camera body anyway, it could have hidden problems.
as for what photographers tend to use, I think professionals who make a living of photography and photography students tend to buy Nikon around here, but a huge section go for Canon also, don't know why since the availability for the canon and Nikon cameras and accessories are almost equal, maybe Canon accessories and lens are a bit more available.
about the lens, I'm still studying the prices here to make the decision, but I guess I could buy it with the lens, and start the saving for the upgrade, specially, I'm hoping to buy mini studio lights and battery grip among other stuff in the near future.
