I've been thinking about it.

One of the thins I've been thinking about is the number of entries and how nominations ought to be handled.

It's impractical for me to look through 300 or so entries looking for great stories. Another possibility is to have people self-nominate. A third possibility is to ask for members to nominate.

I've also been thinking about when to award ... just after rollover (which equals self nomination since we can't see the stories until their photos roll over?) Or wait, say a week, for stories to be written, posted and nominated (which equals self-noomination or nomination by others?)

And I've been thinking about how to ask for nominations without SPAMMING you all.

Finally, the Free Study is members-only. Should it include open challenges so non-members can play ... or should it available in member challenges only?

I would really appreciate folks' ideas and suggestions.

It should be a perk of membership. Members only.

Wait a week.

Members can nominate other members or themselves. And finding them on your (Dr. Confuser's) own is okay too.

My two-and-a-half cents...

FWIW, I don't know why we care about "perks" for members only. I'd leave that distinction up to the site's owners.

But I don't really care one way or another, since I'm a paying member. :)

I say it should only be a member perk in that only members can participate in free studies. If the good Doctor wants to extend this award to the open challenges, so that everyone has a chance, more power to him. But once a month sounds like a lot of reading and a lot of work as it is, and I see nothing shameful about restricting it to the free studies -- even if it means excluding non-members. Like I say -- it's another little incentive to encourage people to become members. Nothing wrong with that, right?

I'd say leave it to members only. With the Free Study we are not constrained by the challenge topics, so if we wanted to tell a multi part story from one month to the next, the FS allows for that.

As for nominations, it could be by jury. People can declare their interest in the challenge in the thread, and a small jury (3 members?)can select a 'winner' each month. The jury can be changed every month, or stay the same.

Just a thought.

All good points. You got to "members only" via thinking about other aspects, as opposed to "let's exclude people," so I'm fine with that. Thanks for explaining.

Oh, I really like that idea, too.

Great discussion! :)
