Welcome to the "writers' room:" njsabs, Melethia, geinafets and of course mycelium.

Maybe after the challenge rolls over I'll have to think about an award.

One last bump for the afternoon crowd.

As an added inducement to tell us the story of your photo, I will be awarding the first ever Purple Prose Award for the best story of your photo in the June Free Study. But here's the catch. Continuing in the spirit of the Side Challenge, I will choose only from those who nominate themselves in this thread.

Who knows, this may be the first and last award of the coveted prize.

Just noticed this now. If its not too late to join, I'd like to participate.

I sometimes wonder if my photographer's notes aren't more cunning than my photography. I love reading others'. But sometimes a photo may not need an accompaniment; it may be very much better off standing all by its lonesome self. I think this is one of those times for me. A time that may not come again in a long, long time.

Not sure how many we get to nominate, but I'd like to nominate the narratives of these two:

Divine Symmetry by Bassbone

L'heure Magique by odriew

First my thanks to all who supported my notion of narrating your photo. I love how these narratives enrich the photos and shed light on the photographers' intent and what they did to "make" the picture. All who entered receive either an Inaugural or Nominee award.

or

In the end, the choice to receive the Purple Prose Award was too tough. So both Bassbone and odriew win the Purple Prose Award (good call VitaminB) for these. Congratulations!

They are great photos but they win the award because they are enriched by a great stories. Be sure to read their stories!

I also suggest that you take a look at the OP's entry as he had a truly enjoyable story to share.

Bah -- the only award I deserve is for procrastination ... I am still working on my essay. :-(

I tend to agree, especially as it relates to my own ill-fated entry. Sometimes less is more...

This is quite a surprise. There is a lot more behind my interaction with Canterbury Cathedral that is very important and personal and meaningful. I am so happy that my narrative although veiled in why this place is so important to me was able to reach you guys a bit. Thank you for the recognition - I really didn't expect this. I am just happy you all liked what I wrote.

I think we should have an award for most verbose....

Doc: Really, thanks very much for taking the initiative and putting this side challenge in motion! I think it's well worth it to encourage photographers' commentary on their work.

Jeffrey: Yep, I think you win the verbosity award hands down :)

This is exactly what I was hoping would happen. The story of the day, the moment, the photo enriches the photo and our enjoyment of it. Thanks! And thanks for sharing such a poignant and personal experience with us. For everyone else reading this post, be sure to read levyj413's story.

Well, not nearly as long, detailed, or perhaps as poignant as Jeffrey's, but I finally posted something on mine. :-)

Mine was posted with the challenge entry and added to after. I enjoyed reading everyone's inputs!

Paul, yours is another fantastic example of what I was hoping for. Thanks for sharing. To everyone else reading this post, make sure you read GeneralE's narrative.

I agree. Paul's was fabulous and so was Jeff's. Good thing I got mine in early....

Ah, but you discussed the photographic process a lot more than I did. And the point about the trip north is very meaningful.
