Lemme see, I know Robert already has a rather wide angle lens for landscaping, and I do know that he was quite involved at one time in Architectural photography... so I will guess this is the lens he is waiting for.....Canon TS-E 24mm II

So Many Choices...
Perhaps it's a 50 f/1.2, f/1.0, f/1.4 or a 70-200L 2.8 L IS or 70-200L 4 L IS?
If not, maybe a 24mm f/1.4, or a TS-E 17mm f/4.0L MF
Taking up wildlife photography? The 400mm f/2.8L II USM, or one of it's siblings would be nice.. Admittedly a 600mm f/4.0L IS might do fine as well..... Not that the 500mm f/4.5L USM is bad either!
No? Hmm.. let me know and I'll try to play a bit more.. |

So maybe he's going to start shooting wildlife. 100-400 IS L. |

I love all these options you're exploring. Not much wildlife on Cape Cod though...

True enough...that is why I thought you were waiting for the Canon TS-E 24mm II ...but it seems I was wrong.

Why do you say that? I have neither confirmed nor denied much of anything except to narrow it down to L glass...

Yah, sure, we were in Maine last fall, we're going to the Virgin Islands soon, California/Big Sur happens every few years, but mostly we stay put.
Spades tournaments, in Yahoo Games. //www.eliters.com/games/league/default.asp?lid=spady
Come visit me in "Aces Orbit" in Yahoo Spades game rooms if you know what that all is :-)

Ahh but Bear, I'm afraid I waste all my free time here, to do that would cause me to stop working entirely. :) |

By the evidence of this thread, you've given up all pretense of working. *I*, on the other hand, am multi-tasking. Supervising 3 games, talking with you, and watching basketball...

The 180mm f2.8L macro? Plenty of birds on the Cape, but my guess is you don't want to carry a large telephoto and you want to try your hand at something new. |

It's very hard to seriously photograph birds when you can't hear...

Not birds, Bear, I meant you want to try your hand at macro photography given the success that another member of DPC has had with this lens.

Oh, I understand the shift up there, I was just keeping the conversation going 'cuz it's a factoid few people have thought through, that you need to hear to shoot birds :-)
As for macro, it's nothing new to me, I have quite a bit of it entered in challenges and in my portfolio — look at this folder, for example:
