Windows sound, firewall, plug and play and other services are not running and I just get errors when I try to start them. This happened before and I had to do a few system restores to get it working and then disabled a Windows update that seemed to be causing it. I tried to do a system restore this time but the services are still not working.
Can anyone help me out? I tried googling it but found many different solutions with nothing working so far. |

Can you backtrack to a previous restore point where they are working?
Have you tried Windows Repair via the install DVD? (you have to boot from the install DVD for this)

Oh I meant to include I tried restoring it to a point when it was fine and no new updates had been applied but the problem still persists.
I'll have to find the DVD, it won't erase any files on my computer? |

It shouldn't as long as you choose the repair option.
Best is to backup anything important anyway.
Have you run a virus scan and spyware scan recently? You might want to try that before you go the repair route as something might be blocking the services from running. |
