I am so happy with my new toy! I just needed some place to put all of these pics I am taking. I took over 1000 pictures in the last 5 days (Junior College World Series).
Anyone else LOVE their external/internal Terabyte?

Is the drive cheaper than the sensor you are burning away so fa$t? Just kidding:-)
I only have 2 320GB ones, and they have made my life so much easier. |

LOL I hope so! It was only 99 bucks at Wally World. I am happy with it.

Those are wonderful, but can seriously crash, leaving you with a lot of nothing. It's worthwhile at that price, to buy 2 and backup everything to the second one, which you store in a different place, in case of theft, fire, a big crash or the like.

| Yes. In fact, I use to to backup photos, plus my whole computer using Paragon's Backup and Recovery software. Its FREE and works great!!! There is a commercial version with more bells and whistles, but the free version does the job perfectly! |

| I got a TB external, and internal. Had two hard drive failures last year alone, and dont want to risk losing any files ever again. |

I had a Maxtor that died when I knocked it over. I bought a Lacie 1TB to replace, and dont dare go near it when its running, so it hasnt died yet. |

Ive been using western digital drives for years and have been very reliable on the 40+ drives Ive had...
Most were retired from just being too small.

I use the Drobo, the basic version is pretty affordable and there are four slots for drives, considering you can buy a 1tb for $100 bucks it's awesome AND With more than one drive you have all your data backed up by the Drobo, safty and space! I adore mine and a total must for shooting sessions and weddings to back things up!

Same here. I have had great reliability from WD drives. Right now I am running two external WD 640Gb drives. One is the primary drive for my photos and I use a program called MirrorFolder to automatically keep a backup set of files on the 2nd drive.

I've had good luck with 5 Lacie drives (so far, knock wood, toss salt, spin three times, spit spit spit) and lousy luck with Western Digital, Seagate, Maxtor, and Iomega ( a long time ago).

Im actually running 3 Drobo's loaded with WD Drives and I cant say enough good about them, the units are awesome and the support from the company is by far the best Ive experienced.

I run several D-Link DNS-323 NAS enclosures, each with pairs of 1.5 TB SATA drives (for example) in them.
Enclosure runs between $110-$150, based on sales and rebates, and drives are around $100 each, so with 1.5 TB drives you've got 3 TB JBOD or 1.5 TB RAID-1 mirror for around $310 -- hard to beat that price. (They accept any size SATA drive -- I just have 1.5s in mine). Performance is great -- MUCH faster access than Drobo. Also, the 323 runs an embedded Linux build, and you can easily hack it to run a full Linux install -- I have full installs running on all of mine, so if you're a Unix/Linux geek or feel like playing with it, you've got a complete server-in-a-breadbox.
Not for everyone... but if you're so inclined, it's a lot of flexability for a relatively low cost. |
