Will post an image thread come Monday night. I have been adding to the list as the names come in. If by chance I miss you please hit me with a PM.

I love these. Do you mind giving me a little detail on these shots. I have a xsi and the same macro lens that you used, but I can't get the detail that I want. I'm new at it and don't know what I am doing wrong.

These are great. One question. How much of the detail in these are attributed to the lens and how much is attributed to the size and pixel count of your 5DMkII?

Most of it has to do with stopping down and getting good light on the subject.

<< 30D 8MP >>>

<<1DMKII 8MP >>>

I think it has more to do with the lens and technique than the camera and MP of it.

The biggest thing is getting in close with the lens, it will go down to 1:1 keeping the shutter speed high enough as the higher the magnification you go the more blur will happen. Get good light on the subject and really stop down, I try to go as far as F13 or so, these were only F8 due to light getting dim outside since it was close to dark. I have a 580EXII with an Omni bounce on the top set at a 45 degree angle. Most times I use an extension tube to get me a bit closer but didn't on these shots. Something new I'm toying with to get a bit of working distance is this.

100MM macro lens<>25MM extension tube<>1.4X teleconverter<>camera I'll post some shots of this and what I think the advantages are along with the trade offs later tonight when I get home.

This is a nice macro (I think) I made some days ago. 60mm and a 25mm extension tube, tripod and a lot of sunlight (just a tiny bit of cropping)

When I look at the images I see a difference between the two cameras. Perhaps I'm biased a little, but I wonder if you posted 8 images, half of one, half the other, if I'd be able to pick out which camera they came from.

Perhaps an offline topic as this doesn't have anything to do with the side challenge, just an observation my part.

Can I join in please? Need to get more practice in with the Macro lens:)

Me, too! Me, too! Me, too! I wanna' play. Summer's the perfect time to go wandering around with my extension tubes :-) Now I have an excuse for pointing them at random flowers and bugs and things.

It's moving month for me but I'll sneak in a few when I can. I too have some tubes that need some testing. ;)

Count me in, just got my macro lens a few weeks ago and have been loving it.

I like this too. I have been waiting for an interesting SC to get me going again here at DPC. This looks like it.
Maybe I will see about getting a diffuser to use with my flash so that my shots for this challenge will look a little better. My cams are getting pretty battered now though. One has a sensor filter scratch, and the one that I a using has a serious glitch in the control buttons on the back so I'm limited in accessing menus.
