I have a FujiFilm FinePix S2 Pro, which takes 4 AA batteries and 2 CR123a Lithium batteries. When the Lithium batteries run out you can remove them and the camera functions as normal, only you cannot use the built in flash.

For some reason, my camera is refusing to operate without the Lithium batteries in, although I have previously used it without them.

Can anybody throw some light on to why this maybe occurring?

sounds like you should ask the guys over there:

The Fuji DSLR forum on DPReview. I use the regular Fuji forum and have hardly ever experienced a question remaining unanswered.

Good luck to you :-)

you need to insert the plastic 'dummy lithium battery pack' that is supplied with the camera into that compartment to complete the circuit.

at least that is the way that it works with the fuji S1.

hope this is helpful.

Thanks Bee Gee, am registering and will post the question there soon.

Magnetic9999, I have no recolection of a "dummy lithium pack", although, what you say, seems logical. Although I'm pretty sure I have used the S2 Pro without anything in the lithium compartment.

I also contacted Fuji Tech' Support, and they never mentioned the "dummy pack", they also had know idea as to why it wouldn't turn on.

you can also try the nikon-slr's forum on www.fredmiranda.com. There's quite a few S2 users there (unfortunately not me :( )and maybe someone there can shed some light for you.

Well, I feel a little stupid actually.

It was all down to my charger, it was set to charge only 2 batteries instead of 4. So each time I replaced them I was putting uncharged batteries in, hence the "ERR" message I was getting.

Thanks anyway.
