Wow! That bitter in three months... Must be some kind of record.

Anybody who thinks DPC is primarily (or WAS primarily) composed of people who work in a vacuum, with no outside input or feedback, is out of his or her mind; that's MY take on it. I have a hard time understanding why ANYBODY would complain when the site is visibly fostering a culture of cooperation, especially inasmuch as this has brought new breath to what had been, for some time, a decaying environment.

There's still a long ways to go, but activity is always key to health on the 'net. And interaction fosters activity. So it's all good as far as I'm concerned.

Sure Robert, just because everybody likes you and stuff. But what about the rest of us who live in isolation and despair? Why should we be at a disadvantage because we have no friends? Be fair!

I like being on a team on the DPL because it MAKES me go outside my comfort zone. That said I also like long lags between seasons. (though hopefully not 2 years again! perhaps 6 months would be a decent spread)

Heck, if I can find friends, anyone can!

Well, in the first place, they DON'T. All like me, I mean. There's plenty of people in DPC that can't stand me. But aside from that, the thing of it is I'll pretty much always help anyone who asks, which is probably why I have a lot of friends, don't you think?

Usually it takes at least 4 months to become jaded and bitter around here. ;-)

Time to pull out some stats.

Members and Open Challenges this year:

Yearly Avg 5.3951
Non-DPL Avg 5.3943
DPL Avg 5.3982

Members and Open challenges that were also DPL challenges had an average higher (+0.0039) than challenges that did not include the DPL. Also all Member and Open challenges that were also DPL Challenges had an average higher than the yearly average (+0.0031).

The lowest challenge averages were when the DPL was NOT running (-0.0008 vs yearly).

If anything the DPL has had a slight positive effect on challenge averages and a major positive effect on entries and votes.

The above stats does not include Monthly Free Study or Speed Challenges since they are not part of DPL challenges.

Nah, I only have that reaction to you about 65% of the time... Yet somehow I still have tons of respect for you... Odd, no? ;)

So it's either my suckage is real or the come back of ribbon hogs are messing up the scores.

Why don't you go and create your own web-site and then invite us all to go join you? I'm sure someone will!

In all this years I have never been able to get rid of a feeling of friend voting when DPL stuff is going on. That the average of votes goes up makes me even more suspicious.

Just my feeling, nobody can change that.

Besides that I never liked the idea of team competition on a site like this. But I am more individually minded. All this does influence my own participation as I no longer feel a strong connection with DPC.

Commenting on stuff that has already been in a review process is a waste of my time.

DPL participants are blocked from voting on teammates in DPL2.

Friend voting is not possible, since you can't vote on your teammates entries.

I understand your hesitancy in commenting -- you may think it's all been said before. But that's assuming that everyone thinks the same way that you do. Pick any picture at the vast discrepancies in voting. Everyone has an opinion, and the opinions are very different. Think of it this way: you've had a number of photos with more than 4 comments. Usually we have 4-5 people commenting on our photos on our team. If you received 4 comments on a photo, do you think that's sufficient and think that the commenting should stop there? Every comment is useful -- whether it's the 4th or the 204th.

To be honest, my average has gone down during DPC. In the past, I was much pickier about what I entered. I would spend the time to think of an idea, to execute it and then process the shot in CS4. At that point, I might ask a few people for honest feedback. If I didn't really feel comfortable in the end, I often didn't enter the shot at all (and just enjoy the learning process).

Now during DPC I'm feeling a lot more pressure to submit something. My team is not making me feel guilty at ALL for low scores, but they are strongly encouraging me to enter something.

Having said that, the team participation is very satisfying and I would join again, even if it means a lower average score. The bottom line is, I'm really learning a lot from everyone (in spite of low scoring!).

Ok, well, that's cool then. Makes me feel a lot better.
Didn't know about it as I have the DPL forum hidden from the subject list and don't normally read about DPL stuff.

Today I accessed DPC from a not pre-logged-in pc and saw this discussion.

I'm antisocial, but I still enjoy being on a DPL team. If nothing else, it gives me an unmoderated thread where I can curse at and berate nine other people.

Bear_Music is sure mycelium is right about BrennanOB, but Bear_Music nevertheless saw an opportunity to make a point, and took it :-)

Clogging up the front page with outdated DPL threads is annoying, and is not exactly a "friendly" approach to getting your way (plural "you" -- I see there are several participants) ...

Not that I really have anything to do with or have any control over getting a DPL season running, but this tactic would make me less, not more, inclined to move things along -- the one bitch nag thread is more than enough for me to look at every day.
