Does anyone have a suggestion for a decent speedlight for the Nikon d70? The SB800 looks excellent but is a bit on the spendy side. I haven't been able to find any SB600's online for sale. Does anyone have any suggestions to other flashes that would be good? Or is it just worth it to bite the bullet for the SB800

The SB800 is an excellent flash. You've spent the money on a good camera, why skimp on the flash?

Check out both B&H and Ritz. They are starting to show up as in-stock.

I agree, do get the SB800! I got mine through eBay. I haven't had a chance to use it with my camera yet (imagine that!) but I can tell by flash-testing it and reading the manual/reviews that SB800 is indeed an excellent flash. It's worth the money and you won't be sorry.

Don't know the price dif. but I have a SB28DX and it is great, esp on the distant shots.

Not sure what your need is.....but since you are considering something other than the on camera unit, I suspect that you anticipate needing greater range/flexability that what comes on the body.....Therefore, you need to seriously evaluate the benefits of the SB800. It was my understanding that as of a couple of months ago...there were only TWO flash units that even were compatible with the D70 (meaning no 3rd party units and older Nikon compatible units were obsolete as well).....so, either the SB600 or the SB800.

It is the SB800 for me.

I would recommend the SB800 or SB600, as these two flashes will provide you full functionality with i-TTL.

I just bought a Nikon D70, and the SB-800 (about 2 weeks ago), and they work very well with each other (I love the wireless connectivity!). As far as I know, the SB-800 and the SB-600 are still the only two that work with the D70, and the SB-600 seems to be on backorder still from Nikon (along with some of the other accessories!). Just my two cents worth!

you should be able to find some on eBay as well.. just make sure you're buying from a reputable dealer.
