Did more editing/processing to this than the challenge would allow. Aside from that, what do you think? Would it have worked?

Why did you pass... that is a great photo. I'd be interested to see what you would have submitted given the basic editing rules.

I think this is excellent. It would have been one of my top favorites in that challenge.

i like the contrast and grain. i wonder how well it would have done. i think alot of dpc people think if it has grain, it's not a 'good' image. . .

From the standpoint of appreciating the photo... I think it is awesome!
Very well done, documents and infers a choice as well as being "art".
You had a ribbon winner on this one if the editing was o.k.

It's photos like this that, when they win.. it should inspire us lesser rookie photographers to be better and make better photos ourselves.

Very nice shot...I'm jealous.

I passed it on too, but I don't have anything cool like that shot to show for it. :)

This is absolutely correct. Grain is generally viewed as bad here. It's unfortunate sometimes, but the mood it can add to an image is completely overlooked.

I'm too picky. I had this image in my head when I went out to shoot, but couldn't achieve it with basic editing.

Yeah, I hear you on the grain. After sizing down and compressing for web, then whatever compression is given on DPC the grain looses a lot of the texture (it's original intention). Buy a print and you'll see how it should look. :-)
