I posted the first round of pics from Olvera Street and the nearby area that we walked to.

Here's the link: //www.owwdee.com/dpchallenge/olvera

Let me know what you think. I suppose I could also post them to my portfolio so people can leave comments or just feel free to post them to this thread.

DOH! I just saw the typo in the thread title and I don't know how to change that. Oh well.

The guitar shot is gorgeous. Looks like you had a fun day. Living in a big city must be a delight for photography. Up here in Chico, there's mostly just college students tubing down the Sacramento River. ;)

Terrific shots! And Bledford -- I can relate. I am in Sacramento and find it complete UN-inspiring. It isn't my home town, so I do know how interesting the world can be! LOL

Although a better photographer than I can do great work in Sacramento -- the ribbon winner, Chris, in DDOF!!!!

cool shots! And sorted out your title mishap too! ;)

I'm glad you guys like the photos! I'm going to make some available as prints very soon starting with the guitars. I need to search for help on upsizing my photos from 180 dpi to 300.

And thank you for correcting my thread title typo, frisca! :)

My favorites are the pastel colored flowers or petals (?). They would make very good looking prints also.

Those are paper mache flowers and I believe they are anthuriums but my limited knowledge of flowers isn't helping me. I will work on those after the guitars.

Great shots Greg!!

I was surprised by the blue sky, here in Corona it has been mostly June gloom since January lol.

The more I look at it, the more I'm beginning to like this one most of all. Good stuff.

Kylie, I've always enjoyed the Blues/Jazz festivals they have in Old Town Sac. Might be an interesting venue. Also, if you have the right equipment (long zooms), you could drive north for the Snow Goose festival we have every winter.

Oh yeah, That was one of my favorites, too. There were some red lanterns strung across the two buildings and I was directly under them for that shot. Too bad I didn't have my lens hood with me that day. I had to smudge out a HUGE splotch (lens flare) on the left side before I felt it was not embarassing to post. :)

Don't get rid of anymore of the flare though...it's what makes that image interesting to me.

OK, will do! I can send you, or post to my portfolio later, the original image complete with ugly splotch. I do like the current amount of flare as it's just enough. Personally, I like a bit of flare as long as it doesn't detract from the total image. The splotch from hell certainly detracted. :)

(fixed typo)

Eric, those are some great shots! I really like your Walt Disney picture in b/w. Yeah, I hope that next time we have more people join us.

Sorry, Drew! I guess I should have posted it there in the first place. Next LA meet will have photos/threads posted here. :)

OK, I posted the original in my portfolio so you can see the lens flare splotch: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=84276. It's an extracted jpg from a RAW file and all I did was resize and save for web.

Man, I wish I were there! Great job. I love all the colors!!!!

I still haven't been to Olivera St and I live soooo close to it! Did you find parking okay, everyone?

Do you want to go to Little Tokyo on the 27th?
06/18/2004 02:13:41 PM · #21
Arie-

You really missed out on a lot of good photos! Eric was thinking about going to a beach like Venice or Newport but I think the eye candy (read: photo opportunities) might be better at Venice just because there are so many "interesting" people there. Other places we could visit: 3rd street in Santa Monica, The Grove in LA or one of the gardens like Huntington. I honestly didn't see much in Little Tokyo worth revisiting but then again maybe you know of better places than Eric and I saw. :)

My guitars pic is almost ready to submit to dpcprints, yay! :)

I am always up for a trip to the beach!!! We'll need to take model releases with us though. It's hard NOT to get people in our photos if we go to Venice or SM. Never been to Newport. I love gardends as well. Never been to the grove either. Are there places to take photos there?

Where do you all want to go? Is the 27th okay? I have NO other plans that day!!!
06/18/2004 04:07:53 PM · #23
To answer your previous question, we both found parking just fine. In fact, I don't know about Eric but we both left at the same time and I think we used the same exit and my parking was free! There was no attendant and the arm thingy was up so I just drove out.

I vote for the beach and maybe we can return to Little Tokyo at a different date. I'm going to print a bunch of those releases today to have around for all of us.

The Grove is an amazing place. It's a mostly outdoors mall with fountains and all sorts of cool stuff (even an Apple Store, in case you like Macs as I do). Lots of photo opportunities with architecture and people. And next door to The Grove is the Farmer's Market. The 27th should be just fine with me!

I’m down for the 27th if I'm not working. I will find out on Monday.

Awesome. So, we are going to the Beach or the Grove. Let's get more LA DPC'ers in on this trip! I know you are out there. Join us on this photo adventure!!! Where do you want to go, the beach or the Grove?
