...there's still something about a come-from-behind victory. i was very fortunate to have been there when it happened. and, as for dpc, i was simply fortunate enough to have been in a place where work and dpc intersected ;-)

a pretty lucky grab, considering i got stuck on the wrong side of the garage entrance after the race and had to wait for every single other car to exit pit road before being able to cross to a better vantage point. lucky i didn't get run over...

the title is a reference to the character Maximus in my all-time favorite movie Gladiator. i've always thought of racing as the latest evolution of the roman chariot races. this image reminded me of the thrill of Maximus putting it in Commodus's face after surviving another bout in the Coliseum.

the race itself was the most boring one i've ever been to, featuring the longest green flag run in about 30 years.

well, boring until the last 10 laps, when kyle busch roared from being 6 back to taking the checkered flag. he's one of those drivers everyone loves to hate, but man-oh-man, he can drive and he can win.

even though i would have liked to have been in a better position, i'm still pretty psyched with how this turned out...and the 12x24 is going to look pretty cool on the wall.

Do you have copies available - my husband is a kyle fan (can't stand him myself) and would like to get for him if available.

Thanks for the background story. It was one of my top three picks (none of which ribboned).

That's simply a GREAT image, Skip. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it used in some big campaign. In fact, I'm a little surprised you're even allowed to post it here, LOL. We should enjoy it while we can :-)

Skip I picked this as your entry during the challenge. Your style is pretty unique here on DPC, and I'd say that you missing getting to go to the other side may have been a blessing if you couldn't get to the non-smoke side. It's a unique take likely from every other photographer that made it across. I'm still surprised it landed out of the Ribbons.

thanks, ya'll!

matt, you had the ribbon shot, no doubt about it (i still would have cropped it tighter :P)

and bear, i'm sorta trying to stay under the radar here ;-) as is, i'm not selling it, i'm not promoting anything, and i'm not distributing it (ie, emailing, etc). at the moment, it's kinda just 'there'...i'm just enjoying that i caught it.

so, sorry, renee, unfortunately, prints & copies are not available :( if i had my way, it would be a much different story.
