| When I first clicked open Oliver's red ribbon shot in HDR, I thought he'd left the Photomatix watermark from the trial version on it and had STILL won a ribbon... :-) (Then I realized it was the DPC watermark.) |

| Not just the middle but I have not seen one in the middle that I don't hate either.... A white logo on a black image is distracting.... as would a black logo on a white image. Nothing much I can do about it :shrug:...... |

It depends on the image whether it's distracting or not. On some it just blends in. |
I guess I haven't seen one like that yet. I can't imagine a watermark across the middle of a photo blending in. |

It depends on the image whether it's distracting or not. On some it just blends in. |

Watermarks in the center are very annoying.
The way I see it, if someone wants to remove the watermark, they probably will, especially if they're stealing it for commercial purposes. The watermark is just there to say "This picute is copyright", the same way it appears on books, music etc. That's why I put mine in the lower right with low opacity. It's hardly noticable, it doesn't distract from the picture, but it's there for someone to see, so they have no excuse that they "didn't know". |

So a few weeks on.... Congrats guys... This watermark crap is not distracting at all in some images :-/
Hit the full one don't look at the thumb.... Picked this wandering thru my favs... It' hardly an isolated case.
Anyways; Once CS5 comes out I hear that I will just be able to download and automatically remove the watermark with a single click, so I guess it's just short-term :-) [before I get flamed more then I will anyway, see the smilie... I am not downloading stuff just point out how useless the all is] |

To qualify my previous post, there ARE some watermarks that don't distract as much that some people are using, which is great. It's the folks that put the mark dead center on their work that I am most referring to. To me it doesn't matter how great the shot is, that dead center text kills it! I guess once the voting is done what does it matter, eh?

Agree with previous poster. NOT A FAN. I guess I'll just voice that opinion int the comments everytime I see a watermark ruin an image. Which, unless the image sucked to begin with, is all the time. I can already feel myself not even wanting to look through the challenge images any more as more and more are ruined.

I gotta say...after seeing the pics with the watermarks, I am not a fan. It is really distracting and for me, really minimizes a pictures impact because of that distraction. I understand the why....but the how, it seems, could be done better. I guess I understand the placement of the marks to prevent cropping them out. Most of the enjoyment for me on this site, as a mediocre pic taker, is seeing all of the AWESOME work done here. It's what keeps me here, seeing all the talent and great shots. It makes me want to be a better photog. That I know of, none of my shots have ever been stolen. There's good reason for this, I have few on here and they're just not that good, so I don't know the feeling of being robbed. I guess I'm just venting my sadness that it's gotten to this point that we have to protect our work and taint them with text, which has always been a no-no here. To me, the great shots that are watermarked will be just that....marked! I'm afraid it will cause the curious that come to this site to go away and not become members. Who wants to look at art or photography that's got writing all over it??

Maria, after I had set my standard white watermark to be placed in the center of my images, I reset some of them individually that didn't show up very well. Just go to your portfolio and bring up individual pictures and you can preview black/white and light/medium/dark and move it to any place on the image you prefer on that one picture or delete it or all of the watermarks and start over. Hope that helps!
Langdon - Thanks for the Watermarks! I doubt I will ever try to earn money on my images, but it did bother me to see a few of them show up on someone's web site. I'm sure this will help prevent some people from downloading our images. |

Can someone point me to a post that displays how all the different settings look. Mostl how the different transpancies look and black or white, etc - position is understood.

| I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. I set the watermark up to be placed in the middle of my images. On my last image "In The Attic", the watermark didn't show up well on the bear so I went to my portfolio and tried to move the watermark on just that one image to the lower right corner. It says the watermark was saved but when I go back to look at the image, the watermark has not been moved. I tried about 3 times, thinking I had missed a step but every time it's not changed. HELP! :-) |

Thanks for the watermarking feature, Langdon.
One suggestion (and I hope no one else has mentioned it yet--I don't want to read through this whole thread)...
Can you incorporate the cursor keys (you know...the arrows: up, down, left, right) for moving the watermark around. I would think a little fine-grained nudging of the watermark would be helpful for many of us, helping to place that watermark precisely where we want it.

A bug, no doubt. You cannot navigate to the image from the photographer's profile. You'd have to know the URL to get there. |
A little research reveals that Langdon removed the "image no longer viewable..." error message for the portfolios of inactive members just very recently; it's meant to help the readability of our older forum threads.
So, the photographers will still be on their own to remove portfolio images. :)
