There is a yahoo group, canondigicamhackingcanondigicamhacking. Go there and join, and ask. I believe the Undutchables hack author is active there. the files section has both hacks and the info on what does and does not work.

Hi Everyone,

I'm a Software Developer and am an avid 300D user. I would like to see all of the features available on the 10D to be on the 300D.

I'd like to hop in on the development of the 300D hack. But not sure how to start off.

Must I speak Russian/Dutch to hop in on the team?

I have the latest version of it and I really like it. Mainly use the FEC, "SET" Button to preview pictures, and the RAW and JPEG size turned to small to save space.

This is really quite amusing. I found a website that does a pretty detailed 10D vs 300D comparison, which is always useful for a newbie like myself. Well now I can truly get a grasp on (and appreciate) just how much more souped-up my 300D is because of this firmware hack.

At the very least, if you have an IPAQ that came with Nevo (excellent remote control software) then use this as a remote shutter release:

Remote

Needless to say, I'm happy about saving $20 and I'll always have my remote with me!

I've had my Rebel for all of 5 days now (so obviously I had a lot more to lose with the warranty issue than some other people), but I was feeling risky and figured "what the hell"?

Well, this hack works like a charm. I have a pseudo-10D for the price of a rebel AND I am still waiting for my $100 rebate from Canon. Sounds like a good deal to me!

I think people that are having doubts should just go for it. No one (that I know of) has reported any malfunctions. Plus, you can always reinstall the original canon firmware (yes, I tried)...but why would you want to?

You don't need to go back to the original. Just install the most recent one, and all the changes will be installed.

Have fun.

Thanks Mario..... worked like a charm, I updated to the "mature version" very smooth process - got new features and also maintained my previous settings.

No downside, only upside.

Although theoretically, you risk voiding your warranty should it break down completely, not allowing you to return to the original firmware prior to returning for service. That being said, I brought in my DRebel for a sensor cleaning, with the hack installed, while still under warranty and nobody said anything. They had to notice, because the screen that shows sensor cleaning mode would show that CFs are available. Those are not normally there with the original firmware.

Just do it, and enjoy that added features.

SUCCESS!!!!!!! Ok everything is fine now. I figured it out. I had to get a rar extraction program and change it to fir. I think I just installed the same canon 1.1.1. the first time. Thanks to those of you who gave me some thoughts. I will be testing this out for sure.

Somehow I am not getting this thing done. I went to download it again and it took 2 seconds and I got the E3kr111b71 rar file 1,815 KB. Is this the whole thing? First time I downloaded, it took an hour and a half. I thought I unzipped the file which had 9 seperate things in it. I changed the program to open it with and can't see what it is or get back to the original way it came up to open it. Right now it says it opens with Internet Explorer but it won't open. I need help, I don't know what I'm doing. Does anyone have some detailed instructions on getting the file, getting it straightened out and on to the card? I can do the rest once it is in the camera.

If I remember correctly, it won't show up unless you activate it in the customs functions.

Check your menus. The last one is the Tools 2 menu (far right). It's the one that starts with the language setting. Down near the bottom if the firmware version. Right under that should be the customs functions. That's where you unlock all the extras.

If it isn't there, then I suggest that you have not installed the correct firmware. Try downloading from the site again, or perhaps from a different site.
Try this one: //www.bahneman.com/liem/photos/tricks/digital-rebel-tricks.html#hot

It has the whole history of the progression of the hacks, and many other interresting links for the DRebel as well.

Good luck.

The firmware does not show as a different version in the menu. The easiest way to check if it worked is to hit the ISO button. The ISO 3200 setting will appear as an "H" right after 1600.

Hello. Ok I downloaded it from the russian site then used the USB cable to get the files from the computer to the memory card in the camera. Opened the CFC door when file was done loading, then closed it and the LCD came up with instructions for updating. So I followed them and the only thing was at the end it did not show last version and the new version. But will they both be Firmware ver.1.1.1.?

Where did you get it? From the Russian site? When you loaded it into the camera, how did you do it? Look at the last menu, it should be down at the bottom of the list.

I'll try to help but i need more info.

I have to say I didn't know what firmware was until I clicked on this thread. I have had the version 1.1.1. on my camera the whole time since I bought it from Circuit City last December. I don't think I have 3200 ISO or FEC. I've never used any of those anyway, or the

AF OS - ONEShot
AF SE - AIservo (dosn't work right now)
AF AI - AIfocusAF

I don't know what that is.

AF AI - AIfocusAF

I'm assuming that AF AI is the default setting for AF. What is ONEShot and AIservo?

I was wondering about this also...

One shot means that it will focus only once when you half press the shutter, and will not refocus, even if you recompose, as long as you hold the shutter release down.

AF AI, is the default setting of the camera (without the hack) and will refocus if you recompose or if your subject moves. Basically the AF will go into AI Servo. This doesn't always work.

Selectable AI Servo does not work on the 300D, but if it did, it would constantly refocus as your subject moved. It is available only in sports mode, or if the auto AF AI kicks in.

Hope this helps.
