I'm in the middle of making a card. There is a commander mode for the flash but I was using it along with another studio light as a sort of fill flash. Switching the position of the studio light and a bounce card made taking what I wanted to take possible. Still, the flash would've been nicer to work with.

Were you able to do the card? Does that camera have commander mode for the flash?

Well...it's not really broken, rather a part is. The hotshoe is dented on one side from a fall it took a few weeks back. I didn't notice until today when I tried to put my flash on it.

The story: I was at a photo contest being held at a local bar/club. I had submitted (And one) a few pictures. It was an interesting night. At one point I decided to stay at the bar until winners would start to be announced. I had my bag with a sigma 24-70 on the camera and a 50mm in the bag. I put it on the stool instead of sitting on the stool myself. A couple of girls were watching a boxing match on T.V that night as well. She went to sit on the stool and I went to grab my bag. She said "No don't worry. I won't knock over your bag." I still went for it. "I promise I won't. I'm just gonna use a little bit of the stool. I left it and put my side up against it between me and the floor. The bag found another route to the floor when the girl jumped up off the stool.

I checked it out right away. It was shooting fine. I checked out the lens. All was fine. I spent the next couple of days just randomly shooting stuff to make sure all was good and concluded it was. Then today, I decide to make a Christmas card AND found that ding in it.

Nikon shop is a station away. I'm sure they will be able to fix it. I'll likely wait until after the holidays but MAN what a bummer. At least it's nothing major (Or as far as I know nothing major).

Fixing the hot shoe is a piece of cake; or it used to be with film Nikon, anyway... Basically, unscrew, unplug, plug in new, screw new down. They may even do it while you wait.

Thats a bummer though, even though it's "minor" it always sucks to have something jacked up on your camera. I dropped my 30d and Tokina 12-24mm in a rocky area. I looked down to see broken glass laying on the ground. But the lens was untouched it just shatter my filter. Scared the living crap out of me though.

Hope you get yours fixed soon.

I don't think there is any worse feeling than dropping a camera. The 2 times I've dropped mine, I got the sweats instantly. The first time resulted in a broken lens, the 2nd time was flawless though.
