Nah, you missed it - he shoots video, I was just translating for film.
So many places have WIFI now that its feasible for you to go to tournement or event, shoot tethered, and have them go to a folder that is watched by an FTP and have the files upload to your "central command" for viewing/printing/purchasing, without you missing any action. |

Just how many shots is your friend taking that he needs a 60 GB flash drive to shoot tethered to? He might as well buy one or two 16 GB cards. If he were using a Nikon D300 and sooting 14bit raw files plus JPEG... he could manage about 900 images per card. If just shooting fine JPEG, that's 3900 images... or 1170 (or more) if just shooting raw.
Just my opinion... but seems to me like he really doesn't need it.

Got this idea from a pal of mine who does video work. He got tired of having to change discs and all that jazz constantly, so he now shoots tethered to a netbook, saving directly to a 60gb flash drive. Then in between bands, he just moves the files from the flash drive to the hard drive.
This would probably be a pretty kick ass solution for tethered shooting at events. The reason he is going with the flash drive, rather then the straight up hard drive on the netbook is that he found the movement and just the bass and things like that from the environment were causing the disk to skip, corrupting his video. |
