Ah yes, I've snowboarded at Grouse Mountain a few years ago. Nonetheless, I don't think surfing at the coast is practical/possible when there is snow on that mountain. ;-)

...and, by the way, where I live is one of the rare places where you can go surfing in the morning, then snow skiing/snow boarding in the afternoon (it's just a 1-1/2 to 2-hour drive from sand to snow).
Here's a view from when I was standing on the end of the pier at the beach, looking back toward the snow . . .
Tip: When viewing the above photograph, click on the "map" link (scroll down to lower right side of page). Then click on the "Satellite" link to see exactly where the capture was taken. You can then scroll around, zoom in/out, etc.

MelonMusketeer - I think you would wither away if you were not either on or near the ocean or a sea. And you have the beautiful pictures to prove it. I always am delighted to see your images.

And about a 4 hour drive to:
About 36 hours by sail to
And about 10 days sail to:
Then, for a couple of weeks every summer I go fish with my pals:
I just can't get enough "Ocean"

From where I live, it's a 58 minute ride to the Atlantic, according to Google Maps.
From where I am now (Craiova, Romania), the Black Sea is an 8 hour train ride away, and the Atlantic is a couple thousand miles away. |

I don't live near the ocean. I think the nearest beach to me is an hour and half journey by train. |

The closest place I seen snow in that area was a place call Donner Lake which if memory serves me right was about a 2 hour drive from the Bay area. Donner Lake is beautiful and automatically became one of my favorite places.

You have to drive 30 miles for dessert? Poor baby...
Actually, I'm a long-time habitué of the Bay Area, and I'm not sure where you get snow peaks within 30 miles, or deserts for that matter... All the rest of it, yup, assuming it's allowed for the volcano to be extinct...

275 miles (4 1/2 hours) from the Virginia beaches. But there are some mountainous compensations for living in the Shenandoah Valley. teehee ;-) |

Perhaps 30 minutes less than Bergiekat. That's not saying a lot, since we are well inland. Got lots of lakes and rivers, though. |

LOL - Bear, you just have to wait a year or so for the snow peaks. Mt. Tamalpais, Mt. Diablo and Mt. Hamilton all have white heads upon occasion when we get one of those cold, cold winters.
(You know, when it gets below that 50 degree mark)
