Really? It makes no sense to me. Not out of context anyway. A photo is underrated if the person describing it as such thinks it scored much lower than it should have. If that person is you, it's an opinion you're entitled to. You're underrated might be my overrated. It's all very subjective and very personal, and no one's right or wrong. That's the whole point of these peer recognition awards. Did you really endeavor to speak on behalf of the entire DPC community when you crowned a photo as most underrated? I say you keep handing out your Mu awards.
And certainly keep up the great work commeting on free study entries. You might be the only person around here leaving feedback that is both candid and balanced.

Thanks for your views Wendy and Sandy. I'm a bit nervous now - this thread is about excellent images; it certainly wasn't my intention to get it hijacked into this debate.
I'm happy to discuss via PMs but I hope we can keep this thread about the excellent images people like to showcase.

Your "most underrated awards" were a great teaching tool. I'm so tired of "ratings aren't wrong" and "voter is always right". If this were an area where everyone had expertise in all areas and had no desire to learn and explore, that might be a valid point. However, this is a site with many users who have never experimented with different types of photography, who haven't had the opportunity to look at other's photos, who have never even thought of or heard about camera motion, and so are starting from scratch in these areas. Your well thought out, in depth look at the more unconventional photos, and your opinion of what should have scored higher is a wonderful opportunity for those photographers to explore some photos a little more in depth than they had previously. Wasn't that your whole purpose?
You have turned a teaching moment into: here's some photos I liked. What an incredible shame and what a loss. You are entitled to your opinion. You think these photos were worthy of a higher rating and you're trying to explain to people why this is so. Isn't this what this site is about? Why are you letting other people convince you that you're not allowed to think a picture is under valued?
I joined this site already with a lot of photography experience in a very, very narrow area of expertise. I'd never done abstracts, never done camera movement, didn't care for either. That's why I joined team suck, not because I did the more unconventional photography, but because I wanted to experiment and learn. Your awards are ones that I take time to study and to see what I'm missing. I still make up my own mind, but I take the time to give a second look and learn from what you are seeing.
I think it's ridiculous to lessen something that people are using and learning from. Just because I give a bluebird, doesn't mean that I think it should have scored higher. Some yes, some no. They are something that I enjoy and have caught my eye for some reason or another. You are purposely looking for images that are worthy and trying to teach people what is worthy about them. Whether your opinions are valid, people may question, that's their right. But I'm incredibly disappointed that you are backing off on something that was extremely useful. We need more of this type of thing. Not less.

Thanks colorcarnival, I appreciate the mention. I was pleased where my image finished, I knew it was a pretty bland subject but felt it conveyed cold pretty well so I went ahead and entered it and it was nice to see a few people enjoy it.
