Submit as few or as many as you want from June 21 (tomorrow) through the end of July.

This is the first time I have been in a monthly side challenge so forgive me for being naive but I have to ask this question.

Do we summit one image in July that we created during the same month or can we summit as many images as we wish as long as they are created during the month of July?

Lot's of comments as to how it was done.

For those that have never used any of the Corel Painter line (Corel Painter Photo, Essentials or 10 (now 11)), it is simple and fun (I use Painter Essentials 4 as it adds a layers function)

You bring a photo into the application.
You set up your materials and canvas up to whatever style (there are many to choose) you want to paint/draw in.
Your Photo becomes an underlay and your canvas is like a piece of tracing paper.
Pick your medium, for example Oils, Acrylic, Chalk, Pencil etc...
Use your Pen (or mouse) and paint on the canvas.
The cursor picks up detail and colors from the underlay, and paints it on to the canvas in the medium you chose.
Paint/draw until you are happy with what you see.

The different mediums and brushes behave as they would in real life, use Oils and stuff is going to smear all together. Use a Camel hair brush for round sweeping strokes, use a palette knife for a chunky look.

There is an Auto paint to get your canvas started but that is no fun and usually only gets you part way there. The shot above I did entirely by hand (no auto paint) and took me about an hour or so. Honestly, I find it relaxing to do one of these every so often.

Painter 4 Photo is included with Paintshop pro X2, there is a trial of Painter 4 Essentials if you never played with it before. Painter 11 is a bit pricey.

I forgot - this was the first time I used my tablet and it was for a side challenge...

First ever drawing with a pen tablet. Not at all anything like I usually draw, I was just playing with the brushes and getting used to the tablet.

Well there's quite a lot I'd put right if I had the time but I really must pick up the camera and do some work LOL

Here's the finished image I started above.

Sorry I know this is too early but I just had to post and say a bit THANK YOU to those starting this thread, it's been years since I tried something in pencil but today I decided to give it a go, couldn't think what to draw so started on the closest thing to hand (as always my Camera), it's not complete yet and has taken about 4 hours to get to this stage but I just really wanted to post and say that if anyone is wanting to have a go but sitting on the sidelines you really should join in, I have rediscovered something I used to be very passionate about.

For those interested this is my half finished attempt so far, all done by hand, I know there are faults with it my eye is not as trained as it used to be but I am loving this and will without a doubt continue to submit to this thread :D I will post the finished image when the challenge finally starts heh

That was the earlier answer ... any image which involves the use of a pen/tablet is "eligible" for this "side challenge" (we need a better name for these!) ...

It's getting exciting!!

Yeah, we need a better name. My thinking is anything obviously incorporating the pen/tablet or any other potential illustrative medium goes. If I've missed any potential participants in this thread, let me know.

Okay, I'll post a few. I'll really have to come to grips with the Tablet. Maybe I'll even plug it in first. ;-)

I'm a little confused. Can the image be completely comprised of a drawing without the presents of a digital photograph. I ask because I don't have my camera at this time.

Yes. All of mine will be.

Good...Thanks! This is going to be fun.

Hmmm, If I can incorporate my pen and ink sketches into photography for a finished product,
I'll be in like a flash.

Why can't it be either, all, or both? I hope? I love your work!

i'm confused .. !!!
is this a group for art created without using any photographic images at all ..
or can it be combinations of drawings and photographs ..
or even photographs alone, manipulated in some way using the pen and software .... ??
