Well why not let the members decide? Post a list of the self-motivated candidates and their application letters and let us vote on them.

Edit - I didn't apply, don't worry. I'm too much a trouble maker. ;) Actually I probably would have volunteered except I could get called away to work at anytime - crossing fingers!!

Can we nominate someone we think would be a good SC member? Obviuosly, this would be someone who has shown interest in the position.

Is there an age requirement? I'm kind of scared to send in a application, especially since I'm afraid that I may not be able to do as much here if I did. I've got a lot going on with school ending, getting a job soon, and starting college in the fall. Hm, I'd like to know if there's a deadline so that I can think about it but not end up missing my chance.

Don't be afraid of age, check out Konador. He is only the ripe age of 1...no wait, he's 17 now. This guy is a digital photographic prodigy. I sent in an application and I am the same age as yourself. I don't believe it is age they are looking for. I believe they are looking for those who are really interested and have a good grasp on the site, things like navigation and rules and all that good jazz. If you feel like you would want to, then go for it, theres not reason not to, you never know until you try.

EDIT: Nevermind about the age question, I just realized that Ben (Konador) is 17, and I'm 18, so that answered it. ^_^

As soon as I saw this in the forums I became extremely excited. I have a;ways thouhgt that I would enjoy being part of the site council. I told myself as soon as there was a position (even though it may be a long shot for me because there a probably a LOT more qualified people than my self)that I would sign-up for that ASAP. I have a great deal of appreciation for you guys and the work that you do. I know it isn't easy and isn't the fuynnest of jobs, but you guys make this site special. You guys are a real good bunch and I would very much enjoy mixing with the likes of you. I am also really excited to see who else is interested.

And I even had a moment to enter the rust challenge this week!

A good knowledge of digital photography (esp post processing) is useful, but not essential for an SC member. General knowledge of how DPC works and the site rules & etiquette is probably more important, at least in my view.

I think the thing that might help most is an idea of time commitment and responsibilities. Many of us that work and have family obligations already know we couldn't contribute at much of a high enough level, but, posting a "job description" might help those on the fence.

It's sad that not all SC have time to shoot more often.

Well, that's not very user friendly. I would have to use it on all of the other entries, and there may be hundreds of them! I'd much prefer a simple Adjust Your Score button. Is that so much to ask for? :)

It doesn't take long at all, since it only works on your own photo. The most times you'll ever have to click is ten ...

A couple quick questions:

2) How did you come up with 3 as a number needed for new members?

3) Is there a deadline for applications?

1) 12 SC plus 2 Admins (see //www.dpchallenge.com/help_about.php)

2) We've had two SC members retire in the last 6 months, and need to replace them, plus one more would help bolster the numbers and make an odd numbered group (good for voting deadlocks).

3) There's no official deadline yet, but I'd imagine that we'll start reviewing the applicants sometime next week.

EDIT: you're too quick for me Karen ;o)

1) How many current council members are there? 12 + 2 admins

2) How did you come up with 3 as a number needed for new members? replace two vacancies, and add another to make an uneven vote in the event of a tie

3) Is there a deadline for applications? haven't heard, but I would assume soon

4) Is there senior council members or do they all have the same weight in decision making? no senior SC members. Admins get last say in important decisions or ties (doesn't often happen)

edit to answer #4 :P
