We both learned something--I wouldn't have thought about it either. I would have figured if the comment wasn't made anonymously, that is was up for public perusal after the voting was over, anyway. Live and learn!

edited to add: oops, forgot it was a PM. Still, I looked through the comments you gave, and I thought you did a wonderful job!

Please do not call out commenters/rotten PM's in the forums.

If you see someone doing so, please do not quote them because then we have to hide your post. Please use Report Post instead. (Thank you to one anonymous user for doing so.)

If you have a problem PM, please alert the Site Council.

Thanks!

Awesome job on an incredibly different comment challenge!

These were the ones I've seen so far, did anyone else make it to 100%? Did I miss anyone?

ok!! Here we go!

You still have 32 minutes to finish--and here's your prize if you do:

The sparkly version, for people who need sparkles after suffering so much

The non-sparkly version for those who are so inclined:

Awesome job everyone!!

1 - 10
6 - 9s
9 - 8s
20 - 7s
42 - 6s
58 - 5s
45 - 4s
31 - 3s
14 - 2s
0 - 1s
Normally I don't give this many 2s and 3s but there were a lot of images that, to me, were not abstract at all.
I hope I was fair.
On a side note, my own score is dropping. And I haven't had a comment in two days.

No PM's.
03/31/2009 07:15:00 PM · #11
Would have been sensible to omit the user's name when quoting his PM. Calling him out in the forums isn't very nice either :)

No emails, and 69 of my 109 comments have so far been marked helpful (although about 10 - 15 of those are new and probably haven't been noted yet), so I'm probably doing something right. Or wrong. lol.

Yeah, sorry to say I'm not gonna finish. After I agreed to this I was swamped with work... sigh

You're sure you didn't miss one? commented on 226 and rated 225?
Check the 'non commented photo' link and you'll see.

There's one I didn't rate, but I commented on all.

There are some amazing images in there, well done to everyone!

Sorry to the people who I commented on as not abstract enough - many of those images were really excellent, but for me they didn't satisfy criteria.

I am so glad to be done!! This was a painful one to do. (I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, so I don't use DNMC very often. I couldn't avoid it on this one.

For everyone's who's made it, you really deserve the special award! It will be unveiled probably Wednesday morning. (I'm coming down with a cold, so I probably won't be able to stay up until midnight on Tuesday.)

For those who haven't made it to 100%, there's still time!!

And many of the commenter’s abstract concept of “abstract” seems abstract.

Did the challenge state that if anything in the image is recognizable, it is not abstract?

and the lesson to learn from this.....don't enter a non-abstract image into a abstract challenge :)

Perhaps, or at least don't enter an image that includes something non-abstract along with the abstract. Other lessons may include (a) don't over-estimate the voters, and (b) don't put too much emphasis on the voting and average scores. They may not be accurate anyway.

That was difficult! I didnt realize how challenging it was to judge my fellow photographers. Although I had a hard time, over all, it was a learning experence.

Ok, thanks for the explanations, feeling a lot better and.......

I DID IT!!!!!

Stats: You have rated 226 of 227 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 226 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.5841.

Well, I didn't give any 10's or 1's or 2's, still a lot above average, but a lot were lacking abstract completely or partially.

And now I'm off to see if there are any new lambs being born, during my commenting the last 20%.

I didn't want to comment and vote at the same time. But one time I commented and then went back a couple of hours later and someone thought I gave them a 2, because someone else voted the same time I commented! Now I comment and vote at the same time.

Takes a whole lot of fun away to comment and vote 100% in this challenge.

I rarely comment until I've voted on all the images first, and I think a lot of people do this, or use a sorting mechanism like Bear's. I would think it's impossible to say what vote a particular commentator gave you.

On a different note: I've received 11 comments in this challenge, which is waaay more than I expected. Personally, I think it's really difficult to comment on abstracts. Many thanks to those of you who did the commenting; it's really appreciated!

Lot of reasons that can happen, including that it might have been an adjustment of an existing vote, and the climb by one in the vote count could have been coincidental. Speaking for myself, I "sort" images into 4,5, and 6 on first pass, and then look at the 6's again and move them up if I like them and comment at that time.
