Could be she didn't want to use her good camera and bigma lens, opting instead for her point and shoot.

However, not having a zoom she had to get reaaaaaaaaaaaal close, and is still blowing the ash off her camera.

lol - or it could be that she is working ten hours shifts and has not had the time to drive over 100 miles to get a view of the volcano. I work 6 days a week between my two jobs just to make ends meet. My only day off, Wednesday, will be spent at the doctors figuring out what we will be doing in regards to me herniated discs and the nerve roots that are being squished. :(

How exciting!

Redoubt just had another eruption sending yet another plume of ash about 60,000 feet above sea level. I have a feeling this volcano isn't going back to sleep anytime soon.

Hi Linda,
I thought for sure Mt. Redoubt was going to wait for July and our visit. I kept the suggestions you made about where to go and what to do. And soon I will have the finalized itinerary and then I'll send it to you.
Jeanne

I wish you lots of fantastic shots with your point n shoot.

Fantastic about your itinerary. I look forward to meeting up with you. Be happy that the volcano went now and not when you were flying in - some flights are already being cancelled.

Hey Linda,

Hopefully you dont get dumped on with too much ash. Stay safe, keep in touch and post some pics if you can :) shooting or not I'd be tempted to put my camera in a big ziploc baggie...

The 50D is in my LowPro waterproof zip bag and will stay there. So far the eruptions have gone up pretty high and the main ash fall is going to the north of my town. We are expected to get some at my house later today. It has already been falling in Talkeetna, about 50 miles northeast of me.

Place your camera in a baggie and shoot that way.

That's pretty exciting, I think! I hope everything is OK, though. Hang in there!

I didn`t even think of that! We dont have many volcanoes in the UK these days.. It did get quite windy back in 1987 though!

Was 1987 an election year?? LOL

Well amazing sunsets or not, I will not be exposing my 50D to the ash. Even the air that looks clear can have fine particles that can ruin electronics. I have to work ten hours - if on the way home I see an amazing sunset the point-n-shoot will have to do.

So much for the pretty white snow. It's gonna get ugly. :(
