I used to have 2gb and 4gb cards but as soon as I upgraded to the 50D they were inadequate. I now have 3 - 8gb cards and can shoot for about 3-4 hours without a problem.

LOVIN my 16G Sandisk Extreme III SD

Had a workshop this weekend--two full days of studio/location shooting. Shot all day (300 images) and had room to spare--my fellow student kept filling cards, having to stop and get another, and even ran out of cards at one point. I could have made it through both days without running out storage on the single card--but had another waiting, just in case.

So I just received my 2 new 8 gb sandisk extreme III's in the mail. WOW are they fast. With my ultra II's i can get 15 shots in a burst before I have to wait a bit for the buffer to clear. With the extreme III i took 94 shots without taking my finger off the button!

edit: And I only stopped shooting because I figured that the test was successful :)

4Gb mostly with some 2Gb cards for smaller stuff, backup camera, second shooter, etc.
Shoot multiple 40Ds in RAW and 5D in RAW. I like that they hold around 250 files.

I picked up three 4GB Sandisk Extreme III cards for free from a rebate deal last November, and I already had a 16GB Kingston Elite Pro for volume, a 4GB Sandisk Ultra II from an earlier deal, and several 2GB and smaller Transcend cards. If I fill those up, I'll need a backup arm, too.

We got two more 8GB CF cards before our Pac NW / Alaska vacation last year bringing it to 3x8GB, 1x4GB(MD) and the 1x2GB we bought with the camera that never gets used. One 8GB Ridata got corrupted at the end of a shoot but I was able to rescue everything with ImageRecall2. I have only used a max of about 12GB before moving everything to computer, but move at least daily when heavily shooting. On vacation I brought my notebook PC and bought a new 320GB ext USB mini-drive. I wanted to make SURE I didn't run out of space like I did on our Fiji/Sydney trip a few years ago when I only had 2GB total.

I have an 8GB CF that I use as my main card, but I get nervous when it gets more than half full - 4GBs of photos, even in RAW is a lot of shots to lose. I also used to have a slew of smaller cards, but I gave away my old 10D and the smaller cards with it. Now I just have a 4GB and a 2GB that I use for backup, and sometimes will switch to from the 8GB if I start shooting something completely unrelated.

I am, to put it mildly, not the most organised individual..., but I do tranfer files from camera to PC (nearly) every day and wipe the card out at the same time. So 1x4gb, 2x2gb and possibly even 1x1 (where did I put that thing?)is more than enough for my amateur D200. Travelling is another story though - and access to charging facilities and/or alternative memory storage...

3 X 16Gig Sandisk Extreme III cards (Wish I'd bought UDMA now)

That is 48Gig total memory card storage and yet I'm unsure that is enough. With the 5DII you still only capture 1600-1700 images. Sounds like a lot until you are alone hiking for several days in beautiful country.

I'm looking for a good eSATA external card reader for a notebook. USB 2.0 is painfully slow, the notebook has an eSATA port but no firewire. Anyone know where to find one?

Smart lady! I bet she also told you it's okay to wash it occasionally, huh?

Luckily she hasn't nailed it to a tree yet

Yes, it's often the little things like this that count the most.

I can also attest to the CF card surviving a trip through the washer and dryer. That was almost a year ago, and the card still hasn't given me one problem!

It wasn't an accident -- some site or magazine deliberately nailed cards to a tree and then attempted to recover the files from them, among other tests. Actually, I think all but two of the card formats passed both tests ... but this was all some time ago.

See you and lower you eight -- I believe I still have an 8MB Smart Media card which came with my Olympus.

I have some sort of unhealthy compulsion when it comes to buying memory cards. I have a 16GB, an 8GB, 9 of the 4GB, and a bunch of 2 and 1GB ones. I also have a handful of 256 and 128s, and to add to Jeb's aside, I still have a receipt around here somewhere after I paid over $100 for a 128MB card back around 2001! I can remember being excited about upgrading from a 64MB card.

I also still have a 16MB (that's megabyte) card that came with my Canon P&S.

Funny aside......I just came across the receipt for the D70s when I bought it and I paid $95.94 for the 1GB card.
