I always see two sides of DPC:

[1] Daggers flying, villages getting torched, looneys lurking to bash you in the threads.
[2] Onlookers stopping by to comment on your newest shot, strangers helping you in need, threads hailing you high after an unfortunate DQ.

I hope you see that there are more colors in [2].

Welcome home!:-)

don't forget #3 Thin skinned people who can't take a joke or a good natured ribbing.

I did that once and got a DQ. I flew to England and forgot the date, so I shot on the day of the challenge but it recorded it as the day before!!!

Dont use the bulge tool either lol

Keep up the good work, excited to see what else you can come up with in future challenges, I really like your style...

Another go? After the few comments given on your DQ, I'd flee...

Come now. Can't expect the welcome to stay warm for four years.

Wow. Really?
I actually had *just* renewed my membership which had not been active for some time thinking I would like to give this place another go.
This actually sucks. I could kick myself for not checking the year on the camera. There is a lot of talent here and I do not consider myself "beyond your rules and bounds". Just busy and possibly not looking at the rules as minutely as I should have. Actually I was consumed with making sure I had the original file this time - and didn't notice the year stamp. Like I said it sucks.

Thanks to those who posted nice comments on the image. It was shot on 1.26.09 specifically for this challenge with the best of intentions. New camera recorded it as 1.26.08. My bad.
Edited date with actual exif data. ;-)

How about:

A gal walks down the street
she says why are my dates wrong in the camera now
why are my dates wrong in the camera
the -- disqualification's so hard
I need a photo-opportunity
I want a shot at redemption
don't want to end up suspended in a Dee Que Graveyard.

Don't snicker, don't snicker,

menus in the moonlight
changing dates can be quite a chore

Now my peers tell me, peers tell me,

Take my ribbons away from me,
You know, I don't find this stuff amusing anymore.

Actually EXIF data indicates it was recorded as 1.26.08. You might want to consider shooting both raw and a small size JPG. It won't make much difference in file size and you can use the JPG as validation. Of course you have to keep up with the small JPG. One thing everyone on DPC should probably get in the habit of, is checking our cameras' date/time each time we make an image for a challenge. You can take some small comfort in knowing that a few of us who read this thread will go check ours. I just did. But I seldom enter challenges. :) Good luck and glad to see you re'upped. Just ignore slippy and he'll go away.

Yes! You are right - it does say 1.26.08. The first day of the challenge. It's all good. Just sucks when you hardly ever enter and then make two unintentional mistakes. Thanks again for the nice comments.

Welcome welcome welcome!! When I went to your website - the first thing that entered my mind is that your work reminds me of Bree and Njsabs2323. I can't wait to see what else you share - your work is phenomenal. I love it!

Ouch! You got hit by two of the most common innocent mistakes on the site (the others are entering the wrong challenge by mistake, getting the Advanced/Basic rules mixed up, and assuming Art Roflmao is serious). Not to worry... it's obvious that you have the talent, and you'll replace any lost ribbons in short order.

Ruth: Just to clarify, I never intended to imply that you consider yourself "beyond the rules and bounds". I intended it to be read as: "some photographers dont like the theme bound photography". If you are one of them (I am growing into one), you dont need to adapt your style just for a ribbon. Like I said (and many agree), you are a great artist. Just dont let this DQ affect your energy. I have been DQ'd once before because of accidentally deleting the original (only difference being it wasnt a ribbon winner), and you wont believe the kind of comments that come your way for rebutting an honest mistake.

Just take good pictures, and dont worry about rules and ribbons (well lemme repharse it: pls do worry abt the rules when you participate here.. but dont let it shadow your style/work:-). You taking good pictures and people enjoying them is more important that ribbons. And again, FWIW, DPC, or any other such platform isnt the end of the world for an artist. Its just a means of attaining the artistic satisfaction.

Good luck.

ETA: Spell correction.

I know this has been asked before, but I can't find it... If I use Bridge to save my photos and rename the file (using the date and a description) will it pass a validation request, or does it need to be IMG_xxxx.cr2? I just started using Bridge as a way to organize my photos and would hate to run into problems down the line.

Welcome back. I was ready to submit an entry a few weeks ago, when I noticed my camera's date was off, and someone just mentioned in another thread how they couldn't submit this week because of the same problem ... it just happens sometimes. The DQ is bad -- on the other hand, you know that people thought it was a great photo ... it just doesn't have a ribbon attached.

Gee thanks. I have had two that were dq'ed. One I didn't realize I couldn't use the unedited jpg and I had wiped the card so the raw file was gone. This one is a brand new camera that is stamping the correct date (which i checked) but recording the wrong year. Thanks for the warm welcome though.

Oh c'mon. You love me and you know it. ;-)

No doubt she is extremely talented. But perhaps her art is beyond the date and time stamps and the other rules and bounds.

So why worry if another champion is turned away from DPC? Why expect her to stay here on our terms?

I just wish her the very best wherever she chooses to stay/go.. DPC isnt the end of the world for great boundless art... its just one of the means to getting there.

ETA: Spell correction: boundles -> boundless.

Best of both worlds. Get a ribbon and front page exposure - then after the DQ get MORE exposure from a thread like this. Multiple hits to the profile page -> website -> voila! :-)
