Just got home a couple of hours ago, what a great GTG! Of course it is always great to see Becky and it was a joy to finally meet Steve in person. Thanks again for a great time.

Only had time to process a few but here is one of my favorites so far.

More to follow in the next few days.

one more

Friday, June 12th was a full day.

We got up for the early light and headed to the Hoodoos across from the Paria Ranger Station where we saw some great formations and a coyote.

It was time to head over to the Page, Arizona area and visit the Horseshoe Bend.

Antelope Canyon was the next step. We joined the photo tour. Unfortunately, it was very busy at the best time of day.

The light was gorgeous even though it was a bit overcast. We even stopped at Rattlesnake Canyon on the way back.

That evening, we grabbed my daughter and her friend, and hiked up Squaw Trail above Kanab. It was a fantastic view of the city.

A great day!

A big hearty "Thanks!" to Becky and John and all you folks who wimped out on this photo safari for giving me the opportunity to photograph "The Wave" and other geologic wonders in the Coyote Buttes permit area of northern Arizona.

We had a special day filled with ATV fun and memorable photography.

It was a great kickoff to my Grand Staircase photography study even though "The Wave" is not part of my project. :)

That's right, Greg. John was down on his knees in hopes of getting a permit, but I doubt he was praying. ;-)

We've made it home, and I can finally look at my images on a "big" computer screen. Steve will be staying on for a while.

We actually got 6 permits total, I was in the drawing for 3 and so was Becky. This was day 3 that we submitted so we both had 3 numbers each, for the 10 permits available we got 6, lucky. Becky's husband Greg doesn’t know this yet, but I was down on my knees in my room last night praying for this fine result.

Thank you Becky... Thank you John!

Being the good people that they are, they secured enough permits to both North and South Coyote this morning through the lottery system at the Paria Ranger Station that they included me in both permit areas. And they did it all while I was across "the street" merrily capturing desert flora and geology imagery and totally oblivious to that unlikely possibility.

So tomorrow we are taking ATVs into South Coyote for photography there and then hiking into The Wave for photography there. Both John and Becky were big winners in the lottery scoring 6 total permits each for both areas. I doubt that happens very often.

Eat your hearts out, DPCers!

Six permits each! And to think I canceled out this year. You will have a blast I'm so envious.

Gonna be on my way down to the Cedar Mesa this evening until the 12th. taking my 7 yr old son down there and hike some ruins, camp out and visit my Dad's "burial" place at Muley Point. Wish I could come farther west and join up. Have a great time and can't wait to see some pics!

Sorry, but I won't be going this time since I can't justify the expense right now.
I would surely love it, but it will have to be another time.

I have the Canon 16-35 f/2.8L lens. Should make for a good comparison.

Yikes! My fingers won't type right. It's the Nikor 14-24mm 2.8 ultra wide. It is fairly new. But not a 12-14.

Just me, Ryan isn't going either. I rented a car for the trip, not an expense I was looking forward to but, oh well.

Looks like we'll get to spend some real quality time together Becky! It's going to be a fun trip I'm sure.

Well, it looks like it is just John, John's friend, Steve and my family. I haven't heard from anyone else, even with PMs. That means we'll hike and move alot. I know you guys.

I've rented a Nikon 14-24 f2.8 wide angle and a 16mm fisheye to add to my gear and work with my D700. I love ultra wides with landscape. They just arrived today, so I get to try them out before the trip.

Life is sooooo hectic that I am looking forward to nothing but early morning, mid-day, and late night shoots. It will be restful compared to the life I'm trying to live right now.

Looking forward to seeing you.
Becky

Don I'm so sorry to hear about your father, my best to you and your family in this difficult time.

I to will not be able to make this trip, I've had just about every vehicle I own have a minor to major repair come up in the last two months. Completely dissolving the money I had put away for this trip and then some. :(

Sorry guys, I'm super bummed about not making this one, perhaps next time.

I'll be in Kanab sometime on the 12th. I'm still hoping to do the Yellow Rock hike with jrtodd and act as a guide for a hoodoo swing in the southern section of the Grand Staircase National Monument(GSNM) with anyone interested.

My Agenda:
I will be in Las Vegas for two nights, the 10th and the 11th, for some nightlight photography before driving up to Kanab early on the 12th. In the morning while on the way to Kanab I tentatively plan a swing through Red Rock State Park just north of LV. I have two nights accommodations booked in Kanab for the 12th and 13th then don't know where I'm sleeping after that. LOL!!! I'll likely be going into the interior of the GSNM after the 12th to be gobbled up forever into the vast unknown. :)

NOT funny Steve ;)
