Scores seem to be rising since last night. The grumpy people from Thanksgiving day were just that, me thinks. eheh I guess some felt left out and took it out on the scores, who knows?

haha I do, I was just venting :P

& Thanks K10DGuy, I really feel bad about making this a thread* topic, but I was pretty ticked when I woke up to some of those comments.
But you definately reminded that I got to stay positive. :)

I understand. :) I try to look at it as a learning experience. I ask myself what I can get from the comment even if I find it ridiculous at first glance. Listen to K, being positive is what it's all about. I got 6 comments on the first day and zippo since. Weird.

But telling me to dodge and burn would be better, when that would be illegal? Hell, I could make the shot 10x's better looking had I had the chance to use some editting techniques, I think I know that already.
Or how about saying the subject I chose is odd/weird. Like come on people, open your friggin minds. The challenge is Backlighting. So the only thing which should be predetermined in any of the challenge photos is that it is backlit, other then that any subject to include in your composition is more then accepted.

frig, I am really getting annoyed right now.

Let's look at some more positive ways of thinking about this:

1) Sometimes people confuse the rules or are new and don't fully understand them yet. After the challenge, send people that comment in this manner a nice helpful PM to point out the rule set and why their observation/suggestion wouldn't have been possible. This not only helps them become incorporated into the site better and helps them not get DQd themselves at some point, but saves the embarrassment of being called out publicly.

2) When comments are left on a subjective level, you can either take it the way you did, or take it as a valuable lesson about DPC. People are going to like or dislike your work on a subjective level. Period. Use it as a way to open your own mind and see it as a suggestion that you didn't reach someone or, if you get a lot of comments of this nature, the masses as you'd hoped. It's great to be different, but thick skin is a good purchase if that's the path you choose.

Just a couple of thoughts. It's better for the blood pressure :)

Well after feeling sorry for myself over the last few days (on target for my personal worst), I just finished voting and commenting on tis challenge. Wow! There are some simply stunning images in this one, and in comparison, I understand my 4.5 :)

One image in particular is a standout (10 from me, and the next one was an 8). Pity I don't think it'll score well with the majority.

Yes, I am quoting myself for the Earlier Post that seemed to fall on Deaf Ears

As for commenting....that subject has been done to death regarding compulsary comments etc etc etc.......Especially with a challenge with high number of entries (like this one) you are not going to get as many comments as a challenge with under 100 enties. Commenting takes time.........To comment on 239 pictures (especially comments with detail, as people will whinge about the quality of comments as well) takes a lot of time..........

Also, a hint for those complaining about lack of comments, please take some time and comment on photos in the challenge.

Some happy pills for the weekend voters we hope

Seriously, the best way for all of you who complaining about the lack of comments, is to comment yourself. If all of you comment on photos, hopefully you will manage to comment one of the other photos that someone is complaining about........

meh. that's fine.

what does make me irritated is i have no comments whatsoever. What's up with that?
126 views! haha. jeez. but there are a TON of entries, so i understand. ; )

Hey, how do you see specifically what scores you've been given?

You will have to wait until the challenge is over, then go back to your submission's page and view the voting scale.

I also recommend checking out the DPC Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet voting analysis which can be found, Here. Thanks to L2

How do comments work?

Voters are highly encouraged to leave comments on photographs. During voting, simply type your comment in the space provided, and then click your vote. You may adjust your comments later.

After voting, you can add more comments on the photograph and see what others said about the photograph as well. As this site focuses on learning, please keep all comments constructive. Try to help the photographer with comments like how to improve the work or how to make it more appealing. Leaving comments also helps your own photography skills, as it teaches you to look at your own work more critically.
