I have another exhibit coming up in April. I would like to use my 'Raptor' photos, but I need to add at least two more to the set. I plan to use black and white prints at 16x24 with 20x28 mat/frames.

I'm looking for some feedback on mat and frame options... colors... ideas...

I would go for something subtle that is not going to distract from those great shots, (my choice would probably be black matte and frame (or perhaps a brushed metal/silver color,,, I am sure there is another word for the type I am thinking of...hmm

Im a noob, know nothing about mat and frames. BUT.. i had to post to say that I love those pictures. Thanks for the inspiration.

Stunning photos John! I would definitely recommend standard "Museum (or Gallery)" style matting and framing. An inner mat of a color chosen from the photo (maybe dark grey, charcoal or off-black), outer mat of linen white, simple wood or metal frame (I would probably choose a black wood or dark metal), that does not overwhelm the photo.

Where and when is this exhibit? I am going to Sylva/Cherokee for several weeks in that time frame and would love to see your exhibit.

Taste Full Beans Coffeehouse in downtown Hickory, NC for the entire month of April... I'm about 2.5 hrs east of Cherokee.

Let me know when you are here. I live about 20 - 25 minutes from Sylva/Cherokee. Maybe we could go shoot something!

Absolutely! I'll be in touch with you both when I am headed that way. I'll be there for a couple of weeks doing a small decorative painting job, and visiting with friends, and will definitely make time for some "dpc'ing".

John, I would use color on the Vulture and Great Horned Owl since the have nice colors. Your Merlin is juvenile so b&w works well, since they are somewhat plain in this plumage. The red-tail, I could go either way since they are predominantly brownish. Just my thoughts. Van

There is a distinct possiblity that i may use a color and bw of each.. I haven't decided yet.

Very fantastic work, John! The tonal range is so deep and rich and lovely. I would go with a simple b/w combination in terms of matting and framing.

Great shots John. I'm sure you'll make a wise decision on the matting and framing. My suggestion is that you print out some small copies of the quad to laminate and make bookmarks out of. You could do double sided and put a photo of a feather on the other side or something too.

:) Take it or leave it. Just the kind of strange ideas I come up with.

Interesting thought. I tried laminating a print one time and it looked like crap.. maybe i can find a better way.. it would make a good 'giveaway' :)

I've seen one extremely beautiful laminated print - no idea how it was done though.
