Can anyone give a difinitive answer as to what the maximum flash trigger voltage for the Panasonic FZ50 is? I have read up to 24 volts.(I wonder if this number is simply based on the ISO 10330 standard?) Does anyone know for sure?

I want to us a Sunpak Auto124 that has a voltage of 42v when fully charged.

It's not the trigger voltage of your camera that's the issue, it's the trigger voltage of the flash you want to attach to it.

According to //www.botzilla.com/photo/strobeVolts.html the sunpak Auto124 generates a trigger voltage of 203V. Which is enough to fry your FZ50.
