| we do take into account geographical location (which is one reason why the "location" field is there -- better to say "eastern NC, USA" than "my kitchen" btw) |

What is the verdict in this situation? My wife ( photomouse) took some photo's Tuesday night after the Halloween challenge was announced. Afterwards, she realized that since we are arrears of server time by three hours, all the shots she had taken were outside the posted window for the challenge (according to EXIF). Yet the fact remains they were taken within the ascribed time.
Does SC take geographic location into account or should we all set our cameras to server date/time? |

Yes. There are no exceptions at all to the requirement that the date be set correctly. This is a fairly easy rule to keep subjectivity out of, so we try to keep it clear and unambiguous.
A few months ago I was at a GTG where another attendee discovered his camera was set incorrectly after shooting a possible challenge entry. Even though I actually witnessed the photograph being taken, it was still not eligible for entry.

I believe for reasons of consistancy that would be DQ`able.. But in all fairness checking the date/time on your camera isnt the hardest thing in the world to adhere to. |

Yop, we go by the EXIF datestamp in the file only. There are no exceptions -- I couldn't submit to the recent pencil challenge because the batteries had fallen out of my camera and I forgot to re-set the date before taking the picture. |

crap i get a nice score and kicked myself in the teeth.
Obviously wasnt cheating since the damn date was 2006

| minimal editing challenges have the strictest ruleset, so we normally get a large quantity of disqualification requests for them. |

we regret to announce that the original 14th and 18th place finishers in the Photojournalism II challenge have been disqualified due to date violations. specifically, these two photographers' cameras were set to 2006.
it's critical that you check your camera's date/time setting. there are absolutely no exceptions to the capture date rule, even if there are outside means of "proof" or extenuating circumstances.
