darn server maintenance, now I have to write it again.

I like #1 best, but minimalist that I am, I'd lose the 3d-rendering and make the sunbeams linear instead of triangular. the red could also be a bit brighter.

I like # 4
it's shows off the name best, I think :-)
***cool effects too***

i like #1 best, but might kill the bevelled edges - and make the gap between the sun/star and the sweep a bit more defined.

edit: speaking of the 2nd version of #1...

#5 for me. Why should it be "professional" or not? It works as a logo has to do! for me at least ;)

nice image for the web site, but not quite what i'd want for a logo...

i do like studios better as the name, though, if we're voting on that...

penrod photography = pp... i was hoping leroy would point that out first, but oh well...

and as for logo 1, i liked it better w/ more spikies in the sun...

Yeah, I like that one much better. LOVE what you did to that pic! :D

Cindi- here's a must read if you're designing your own logo
anatomy of a logo

I had no idea what I was doing when I started mine and didn't think about how it would reprint in different circumstances. While I still love mine, it's much too wide and if I have a certain amount of space to put my logo (like my website allows a certain pix x pix) it gets very small and hard to read!

Good luck with it! :0)

I intentionally didn't / haven't used an image as a part of my logo because A) I'd hate to be stuck with an image that I don't like 6 months from now; b) I want my logo to work on any / all images AND on business cards, t-shirts, website, etc. It can be combined with an image as long as the image is changable and not integral in the logo design.

Scott, I don't think I could stand handing out business cards with a pic of me on every one, but I do like the concept. I especially like that you kept the image full opacity & faded the logo.

I would like to change the business name to Penrod Photography because Penrod Studios doesn't say what kind of studio and adding Photography to it just gets bulky. It occurs to me that it would mean changing my web domain, but that's no biggie. The biggie, though, is my yellow pages ad is already printed with Penrod Studios in the name. Hmf.

I would also consider something that would work well for a business card. I think swhiddon's suggestion would work in that regard.

Fascinating. I love it as well, but it doesn't shrink well. But you could take the concept and put the PS on anything as you scale it...

as best, as it was the most readable. I read one and two, and because of font, I was reading it as 'period' photography, not penrod. I wouldn't think you'd want that to happen. And I agree, the clip art on #3 diminishes the logo a bit.

Also think about what you want a logo to do. Do you want them to remember your name? Or do you want it to be 'cool'?

I'm still playing with some other ideas.

This sucks, but you can incorporate a photo to make it stick out a little more like this :

That particular image doesn't like a black or deep red background, and it hints at a P but not perfect, thats why I threw the big letter in there. But maybe it'll give you a few ideas.

Got to agree, #1 sticks out for me.

However,
-Arc feels like its falling off the side of the text a little, and the amount of dead space in the middle makes it maybe feel a little disjointed. Also wonder if the sun is perhaps a little complex in terms of number of "arms?". Don't know if pulling it all together a little may be an improvement.

I was thinking the same thing. The middle dead space is a little to much. And i think you need to simplify the sun. The way the ray on left meets the arc is not very fluid. I do love the text layout and font. just need to play around with the graphics. you may wanna try printing it as you would see it on letter head or an envelope or bus. card. That can help you visualize what you really want.

It completely depends on what kind of clients you plan on having. #1 and #5 are the best. #1 has a professional look to it, which might catch another businesses attention. IMO #5 wins. It has a more fun and untraditional look, which would be much friendlier to regular people looking for a photographer outside of work. Often times, a logo which looks dead serious can scare people away. You're a photographer, not a lawyer. You don't want a logo that screams 'serious as a heart attack business shark' but rather one that says "I'm easy to work with, friendly, and I have an interesting artistic perspective."

I would take #5 and use it as a concept logo, then go from there.

Just IMO.
