We're so close to August that it may be worth the wait to get one ... or even just to wait for the 5D Mark II to drive the price of the 5D down. But again, it's only just a rumor.

Not a pro nor anywhere close but love taking shots. I just love taking photos good or bad.

I would love to make money from it but so far not a £. Too good for my own good, i mean, how can you price priceless?? :)

Well, as long as we're playing this game, I want a Mark III.

I'm a hobbyist, but I absolutely LOVE my 5D.

Ah crap, I don't really have a 5D, but it wasn't all that long ago I was constantly whining on the DPC forums about my P&S. ;-)

I have had my 5D for a few months and love it, upgraded from a 10D. I am not a professional at all. My wife is a florist and I take the pictures for the website, so it was easy convincing her that I needed a $3000 camera for a handfull of new products every year.

Will I ever become a professional photographer? No, not if it ever feels like a job.

Now that's an attitude I should emulate! :-)

I'm strictly amateur at this point, and happy with that. I think you'll find a *lot* of pros using the 5D in wedding and portrait work. It's also a wonderful camera for landscapes, but truly professional landscape photogs often go for medium format digital.
The response on DPC is going to be skewed to the amateur side, since the majority of photogs here are amateurs.

Had my 5D for about two months now - (upgraded from a 350D) to say Im pleased is an understatement. Im not a pro - but I do sell lanscape prints at my local gallery which is paying for the new kit.

Ive also been asked to shadow the photographer at a friends wedding in a few weeks - so really hope I can break into that side if things.....

Well, I just got my 5D a little over a week ago, so I guess I'll chime in. Am I a pro? Not really. If I never made a dime from photography, I couldn't justify getting a $2,600 camera and pro lenses. I don't make enough money to pay the bills, but I do make enough money to pay for my camera gear. Between portraits and stock, I make a little money. Right now I look at my gear (5D included) as an investment in a profitable part-time business. You gotta spend it to make it, as they say. And years ago I invested a lot of money into a huge CD library and a PA system. 12 years later, and my DJ business makes a nice chunk of change for me. I hope to be able to say the same about photography soon. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question exactly, but take it for what it's worth. And oh yeah, one more thing. The 5D is an AMAZING camera! If you can get one, do it!

I have a 5D and a 20D (...& a 10D) and do mostly weddings. You could do them with 20D's but I gotta say I LOVE my 5D! But the fps is better on my 20D and I'll use that for the bouquet toss & reception because of the monster files too.

Also I can't afford anything with the name Mark in it!!! :0P
