We did this not long ago (July): Straight From The Camera with awesome results.

Challenge Description:
It's been suggested so many times, we're going to give it a whirl. Your challenge is to give us your best image STRAIGHT FROM THE CAMERA. The original MUST be a jpg; you may not use RAW for this challenge. Absolutely NO post-processing is allowed except resizing and compression for the web. That's right; no cropping, no rotating, no image adjustments, no sharpening, no cloning, no borders, no nothing. Have fun!

... and whatever editing was done in camera after the shot was taken to achieve the jpeg file.

-- the camera sensor captures only RAW data. To achieve a jpeg processing/editing has to happen. This processing based on the parameter settings in the camera such as saturation, contrast, sharpening etc.

Photoshop or whatever editing software you use actually handles this type of adjustment much better and provides more control. You can only do so much with the in camera settings.

Hey guys. Forget what I said. My thought about raw pics has obviously been done and that's that. I like raw because imperfection sometimes becomes beautiful like Joe's turtle. Sometmes you get a diamond that hasn't been cut.

Right, we should use the minimal editing but say you can not rotate the photo or that is disqualified. But then how would anybody know?

You cannot have a straight from the camera challenge because you have to resize. You can't have a huge photo entered because you wouldn't be able to see the whole shot and if you take a portrait orientation then you'd have to rotate. That means it isn't straight from the camera. The minimal ruleset is already in the system and is intended as a straight from the camera type of editing.

I personally think you are all afraid of what this challenge could mean.

Not so tough without your photoshop, huh?
=)

If this goes through, it will be my best challenge yet.

LOL!! A good place to start

I think the secret would be
1. No flash unless you have a Whale Tail or a studio setup.

2. Make sure and wait for the ambient light to be just right if your outside.

3. Think about it for at least 30 minutes.

4. Make sure you are not hungry because this will induce camera shake.

5. Tripod

6. etc......

And just to be clear I will not enter into this challenge becausecurrently I'm not very good. C
A camera without editing is like Michaelangelo to sculputure. You have to be a genius.

We've had minimal editing challenges before and straight from the camera challenges before so I'm not sure what you are talking about.
